Power Lock Not Working Since I Replaced Outer Door Handle

1999 Silverado NBS

I replaced a broken outer door handle and now my power lock on that door doesn't work. The solonoid still clicks and the door will lock if you manually move the lock slide so the rod is still connected but the solonoid will not move the rod to the lock slide. I guess I must have dislodged something but I sure don't see anything out of place.

Does anyone have a good photo or diagram of the power lock mechanism and the rods? Maybe if I understood how it was connected I could see what I messed up. I just can't see far enough into the door to figure this out.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Check that the inside lock slide is seated properly. Behind the lock slide is slot for the lock rod to travel in. The rod sometimes falls below the slide and lets you lock it, but if not in the slot, it won't pull the rod back up.

If I remember, that rod also snaps into a nylon C clip on the inside (window side), middle of the door.

Do I understand that the outside door handle works when unlocked?

This is really dumb ...but i was putting new speakers in truck the other night and when i went to put the lock plate back on i noticed the thing would try to lock but not keep locked...then i relized that it was cause i had the door open and keys in ignition(sp)

Thanks, yes the door handles both work and I can lock and unlock using the key or the manual slide inside. I checked the rod and actually left the door panel off so I can see what's happening and the solonoid just doesn't even try to move the long lock rod that connects to the slide. It acts like the slide rod is off the actuator but it isn't as moving the slide manually does lock and unlock the door.

Huh... Unless the actuator didn't line back up right, I can't think what else it could be.

If the door panel is still off, check if there is a bypass rod for the lock - one that runs from the handles and locks, but around the actuator.

I also just noticed that you have NBS, mine is the OBS. If all else fails, ask the parts rep. at the dealer for that diagram that you wanted in the first place. ;)

Good luck!

I don't know if you have done this yet, but you may want to try looking at the solenoid and rods in the other door. See how they are connected and compare that to the door that has the problem.
