Got My Line-x Done!

Recommended Posts

So the day finally came and I ventured up to Keene New Hampshire to Stans Auto Body to have my truck sprayed. I called them and told them I also had 2 other guys at work that wanted their trucks sprayed. They quoted $550 cash under the rails including "Xtra". They took my truck in today and the others are going in later in the week. The whole process took a little over 4 hours in which they took their time on prep and cure time for the "Xtra". I had to travel about 70 miles to get this done, but I very highly recommend anyone in the VT, MA, NH, area to visit this shop.

Here are a couple shots.

Nice, I love the Line-x. Dumped a bunch of snowmobile all over the back of the truck, quick wipe and it was all gone.

Question, why do some places put the Line-X sticker on the back window, while some put it in the bed of the truck? Personal prefrence?

Nothing a razor blade won't take care of  They also stuck a logo in the bed too, but I suppose I can take that off if I really want to.

Looks clean...kinda pricy though

Considering I called about 8 other shops and had quotes upwards of $700 for the same exact deal, I think I did pretty good.

Wow, the shops are pricey up there! 550 is high, but 700??? That's ridiculous. Anyways, congrats! It looks great. Spray-in liners are probably the only "mod" that I consider an absolute must-do on a new truck purchase.

From what I read, I guess thats a little high, but $450 + $100 for the extra was not a horrible deal, at least I think anyways. I know there are some shops out there who pump 10 or 20 trucks a day in and out, but this was a certified installer who owns the body shop and has been in the body business for many years. Time taken on prep and the whole overall process was worth the money in my book. To top it off New Hampshire has cheap alcohol and no sales tax so 4/30 packs for $55 some Vodka and wine for $30 made the trip even more worth it.

Alway good to mutli-task when ever possible.

But never drink and drive or excessive cell phone useage while driving. That would be just crazy.

Good to hear it was worth the trip. And looks like a good job done.

that's new england...everything costs more...i paid $450 over the rails for normal linex in portsmouth, nh.

the dealer wouldn't budge off $700 for rhino lining so i thought i had myself a good deal

The closest Line-X shop to me was about 20 minutes away, but I visited there a few weeks ago and it was pretty dumpy and he refused to do the "Xtra" because he was not certified, but said he would do it for $250 on top of the original $450 quote. After I left there, I made my barrage of calls and finally ended up with Keene because he matched the $450 deal and offered me the "Xtra", which I really wanted for only $100 more.

I'm new to this but want to get the spray in liner once I get my new Silverado. I have a few ?

1. Can they spray it where covers the up over the lip of the bed (i.e. where a camper would rest) ?

2. If so, does that cost much more?

3. I take it Rhino liner costs more. Is it better? Yours looks gr8.

I think under the rail or over the rail costs the same. I was quoted from my dealer the same price. I paid 500 for mine (over the rail) thru the Chevy dealer. I know it was a little high but then I did not have to take the truck 30 miles away and wait a few hours.

To answer your first question, yes: this is called "over the rail" spraying. At the place I went to, I believe it was the same cost to do this as to just do the bed. As far as Rhino lining vs. Line-X, if you do a search you'll find many threads on this. It's a very contested issue, and I honestly don't think there is one right answer. The general consensus seems to be that Line-X holds up better, but in my experience this isn't true. So long as the surface is properly prepared and the liner is applied properly (in other words, if you go to a reputable dealer who does good work) then both will hold up well. Line-X dries harder, and until recently offered more of a matte finish. Rhino lining has a rubbery texture when it's set, and is more glossy. Of course now you can get Line-X Xtra, which as you can see here offers a glossy finish similar to Rhino lining. For my truck I went with the Rhino liner: I like the rubbery, grippy surface, and I got an excellent deal thanks to a friend who works there.

Rhino is rubbery and snags easy shoveling dirt out and trying to move heavy metal objects around the bed when loading. I got mine done today in my 08 but not a line-x its a Turboliner heres there web site, http://www.turboliner.com/ has the same texture and base as Line-x. I had 3 other trucks done with this and 3 of my neighbors also had it put in without problems later.
