6.2 Vs 6.0

I was just wondering does the 6.2 in the Denali have the dreaded torque managment that the 6.0 liter has? If it doesn't why would the 6.0 liter have it when the 6.2 has more power?

Yes it does even with the 6L80E trans. It has both abuse mode and torque management. Good news is it can be removed or reduced through a tune.

They are mated to different transmissions so you can't make direct comparisons. The TM characteristics are different on these two trucks.

Steve, all of the GMT900 trucks have way too much abuse software programmed in, including torque management. No matter what kind of engine/transmission combination you go with you're probably going to want a tune to at least dial some of it back. The L92/6L80E is really no better or worse than any other drivetrain.

Ok thanks guys. I was just wondering, I have the 5.3 liter in my NNBS Sierra and I just thought it was a bit odd that everybody with a 6.0 liter complained about the torque management and everybody with the 6.2 did not. Also who cares if they add AFM to it. My 5.3 liter has AFM and I do not notice one difference in how the truck runs in V4 mode compared to V8 mode. No vibrations or anything, it is totally seamless and smooth. Thats how it should be, a manafacturer like GM would not have implemented the technology in the first place if it impacted the truck as severly as making it vibrate all the time or something like that.

I am really impressed with the AFM in my 5.3 also. But everbody makes mistakes. GM implemented the Cadillac 8-6-4. That was revolutionary. :uhoh:

When I tested a Sierra Denali it didn't feel as weak as my V-Max, could be it has way more power or a better transmission. I think the 6.2 has less torque management though. Kinda wish I would have gone with the Denali because I don't like AFM.

I drove all 3 (5.3, 6.0, 6.2) in early 07. I was coming off of an 02-6.0/4:10, and an 8.1/4:10. I knew from experience the 6.0 was not enough for me towing heavy, but I didn't have much choice with the 8.1 discontinued, so I drove it again to see if the VMax was any better. I was shocked at how bad it performed with the TM, I was like ohhhh, ooooo I'm going to have to go drive a Dodge!!! I knew that it also wasn't going to be enough towing heavy, but what choice did I have? I went to the Dodge dealer, it was fine, not what I wanted but better than the choked 6.0. Luckily for GM (and me), the Dodge dealer had no loaded ones, but was expecting some in a few weeks. I waited. I knew the Denali was out but didn't see it anywhere, nor did I think the 8K max tow rating was going to work for me. As I was driving to the Dodge dealer again, the Denali stuck out like a sore thumb at the GM dealer next door to the Dodge dealer. I said I may as well drive it. It suprised me how powerfull it felt. Canceled the Dodge buy and tried to learn if the 8k tow max was gonna be a problem. Actually took the trouble to go weight my trailer, 7700lbs loaded. In the end, I still wasn't sure but bought the Denali anyway. It has performed very well towing heavy, almost as good as the 8.1, and better in some cercumstances. And with a much much better ride than my 2500. So while the 6.2 I'm sure has some TM, as shifts can be delayed abmormally, and still clunks once and a while, it still gets the job done for me. And my 6sp has had some teething problems that GM has mostly fixed with a TSB, but it still could be better. Also I doubt the AWD will be reliable towing heavy in the long run, but I trade at 75-100K anyway.

And the 5.3 that I drove impressed me a lot, and my friend who also drove it that day. It felt more spirited than the 6.0. It just wouldn't work for me towing heavy.

The 6.0 could be a ton better if they removed some of their excessive TM, and the 6sp will make it that much better.
