Oil Filter Re-locator Kit

Im new to this site and so far I like all the great help, advice and trucks you guys have some really trick stuff. Well to break the ice I figure I would show off my latest project that I put together.

I refuse to except that the stock wimpy oil filter that are in the 5.3 03 Silverado can hold their own weight when it comes to doing the job it just looks so sad. So what I did was got the Perma- Cool dual re-locator kit, 20' of -10 AN stainless braided hose, 2/ straight -10 AN to 3/8 in. NPT adapter fittings, 2/ 45 degree -10 AN to 1/2 in. NPT adapter fittings, 2/ 90 degree -10 AN Hose to -10 AN Female 2/ 180 degree -10 AN Hose to -10 AN Female and two K&N oil filters PN. PH3001. My theory behind all this is based on the 92 toyota tacoma I saw my co worker put in a hole 5.5 qt's in it when the motor is only a 2.4 4 banger. So me being neurotic and OCD I figured one reason that my co workers truck made it to 212000 miles and still running is because of the oil volume. So that being said if there is more oil in the system then it would stay cooler, the particle matter per oil volume would then be less, and not to mention oil changes would be far less as well. In the end I went from using 6 qt's of oil to a full 9 qt's.

While I agree more oil is better, engines last 200,000 miles or more because they are well designed. For example, the chrysler 2.7 v6 can have a 55 gallon drum of oil and it still will fail because of poor design.

That is impressive.

Couple of questions:

1) I am assuming the additional oil will extend drain fills intervals to 15K-20K? (On synthetic)

2) The additional filter is for the additional volume?

3) Did actual Oil Pressure change?

I am assuming one of the filters is a full flow filter and the other is a bypass. If this is true, the bypass filter only receives 10% of the oil at a time and it is much more restrictive than the full flow. Because it only receives 10% of the oil flow at any given time, the fact that it is restrcitive does not matter.

Amsoil has some excellent set ups along this line. I met a guy with a Dodge Cummins with this set up and it had about 180K on it at the time. He had istalled the bypass set up around 80K and began using Amsoil. He had not changed the oil since. He simply changed the filters at some given interval and ran an oil analysis every other change. Of course, simply changing the filters required about 2.5 qts of oil to refill so he was changing at least some of his oil with each filter change.

Still, a very nice set up especially if you are using a truck in a commercial application and want to see it last for several hundred thousand miles.

If you change your oil/filter (conventional dino) every 3000 miles, this mod is a waste of time and money IMO.

I agree. GM has proving grounds and testing labs where they run engines for a million miles to test their designs. The engineers know what they are doing and have designed the best componets for the engines. With the materials and workmanship of today you don't need any gimmmicks to get 200K plus from your engine. Just use a quility oil and AC filter and follow a good maintenance schedule.

Just my opinion,

It all depends on what you are looking for out of your truck. As I mentioned earlier, if you are using your truck in a commercial application such as hot shot hauling or other service where it will see extensive use, I would feel this would be a good addition. A very similar set up has been used on over the road trucks for years. I am sure this helps contribute to the hundreds of thousands of miles they put on an engine before a major overhaul.

However, for everyday normal driving, it would be overkill IMO.

But hey, he may think some of our mods are a waste of time and money. It all is up to the man holding the pink slip and the credit card, :) unless you are in my part of the world where many use their money for wheels, tires, expensive paint etc. and then use my money (and yours) to buy their groceries and health care. :uhoh: Don't get me started.

I like that idea, where do I sign up? :)

Just come on down to MS and do the following:

1) Put your truck in someone else's name

2) Add all the bling it will hold including a stereo that plays only obscene vulgar words

3) Apply for a job every 3 months or so but don't dare accept one when it is offered to you

4) Have children by as many women as possible and

You too can be on the program.

I told you not to get me started. It makes me want to :uhoh: someone.

Thats a good looking set up, I wonder how messy it will be when removing the oil filters in the engine compartment with limited space though. Also did you TIG that bracket your self? Non the less even if it doesn't show improvement you can't beat the underhood dress up. An oil catch can would probably match that pretty well.
