Speeding Summons !@#$%&

Well..as the title says, I just got pulled over and issued a 4pt speeding ticket 72mph in a 50mph zone. :Boo: I have a clean license, and I am 40yrs old.

A few things.

I had just turned left onto this 3 lane road and he was in the center median w/ radar, not sure how far he was, but when I saw him and looked at my speedo, it was more around the 58-60mph range. Not sure I could've reached 72 mph in that short of a distance with my truck. I also didn't really get on the gas until the truck sraightened out through the turn. So, I'm not buying the speed he claims I was going. So of course it's his word against mine..whatever. Basically the difference between a $100 and $200 ticket, plus double the points.

Avoiding Points

Has anyone ever heard of sending in a check for more than the summons is with a self addresed envelope so the clerk can send back a receipt and the extra difference paid? I read somewhere a while back if you don't cash the return check they send back, they can't close it out which prevents them sending it onto motor vehicles. Basically, I care more about the points than the $200 summons. Does this really work?

What a Jerk

Why do most cops have to give attitude? I pulled over IMMEDIATELY after seeing his lights go on, and had all my credentials ready as he came up to the window. I was as pleasant as I could be and politely handed my stuff to him. He still acted like a hard ass the whole time, big surprise. So, after he gave me the ticket I copped the attitude with him.

He stood at the rear of my door (I could barely see him) and stretched out his arm to grab my license, insurance card..etc. What's the purpose of doing that? I don't have tinted windows, I was the only person in my truck too.

This is my first ticket in several years. Maybe he didn't appreciate my 'murdered out' cop truck? :rollin:

Wow, sorry to hear that Umberto!

Haven't heard anything about the points angle, but.....

This is one of the federales' busiest time of the year, I was out earlier today an both the locals and state bears were out like flies on a roadkill.

Maybe his day wasn't going right, he might of just gave a ticket to an 'ol granny that purse whipped him in the knees.

I get a little time to type it out I'll tell you the story about when I got stopped by a capitol cop on a bike in Hbg. Pa.

The only question I can answer for you is ,Why Did he stand so far behind you ? It s because if you had a gun , it would make it a little harder for you to shoot behind you over your shoulder and give him a little better offensive postion to fire or back away. Just a way to better control his enviornment. I know you were no threat to him and my answer may be hard to understand unless you ve been in the postion of having to stop cars and deal with some of the crazies out there. 99.9% of the stops are safe but thousands of cops get shot every year doing their job. I don t know were this was, and it really doesn t matter but I worked 10 miles from what was the CAR THEFT CAPITAL of NJ (Newark)and have seen bad things happen just from stopping a car. Now as far as his attitiude, Ive known many cops that I did nt like either

Ok..I can see that. Guess I just know I wasn't a threat, so it seemed weird to me, I don't recall seeing someone be that extreme, surprised his gun wasn't drawn.

I don't think the whole check thing is really going to work. I've heard of that one floating around for quite awhile, but never from anybody saying it actaully worked.

But lots of cops just act like they're on a power trip or something. Seems to be even worse when they get their hands on a fast looking car or any modded vehicle. Which are already cop magnets as they are. But must they be a hard ass all the time? Who knows?

If I were you, I'd just please Not Guilty, and go before the judge. At the very least ask for deferred judification. Obey the laws for awhile, probably take defensive driving, and then nothing on your record. And if you haven't taken defensive driving, most insurance companies offer a discount, something like 10%.

Either way, good luck man!

I thought they HAD to show you the radar gun with the alleged speed displayed? If they can't, then they can't prove it. He said she said.

I doubt they have to do anything, sounds fair, but then everyone would be asking to see the radar and it would become very unsafe and time consuming. As far as he said she said..the judge ALWAYS sides with the officer.

Good luck anyways.

I know here you can go to the DA's office and tell them you want it changed to a non-moving violation. Its the same fine but it doesnt make your insurance go up.

That last time I got stopped, the radar gun actually printed out the ticket. I never had seen anything like it before. The radar gun had a magnetic stripe reader on it and a printer.

He walked up, showed me my speed, swiped my license through the radar gun's reader, and entered some info about the car. A few seconds later, the ticket printed out with all the necessary info. Where we were, when we were there, what I was stopped for, all the necessary info about the car, where I lived, etc, etc...

Get a traffic laywer

You will most always win. It's better than spitting in their faces.

i haven t seen too many WINS even with a lawyer. Plus by the time you spend $hundreds ++ for a lawyer, do you really WIN?

The best advise i ve seen is, ask the prosecutor for a no points, pay the fine deal.

Maybe they do it different here in Florida.

Everyone that I have suggested to get a traffic lawyer has won the case. Every-single-one.

Lawyer gets his $200

Traffic ticket/infraction/whatever it is goes away and never existed.
