Silverado Spare Tire

My friend just bought a WT with a LS package. While we were looking it over I noticed his spare is a 7 spoke black mag wheel. It looks just like a 7 spoke vette wheel that has been painted black. I have a LT2 and another friend has a LT1 and both of ours have a black steel wheel with circles. They look like normal spares. Anyone else noticed this?

I have the 7 spoke wheel as well. Unfortunately, I got to use it last winter thanks to some metal in a snow pile I decided to run through. Those plows churn up the damndest things.

EDIT: Pretty sure mine is a 17 inch wheel though. I'll have to check tomorrow.

Yep I've noticed some trucks have a steel spare wheel, and some have an aluminum spare wheel. You'll also notice they have different models of spare tires...some have a Goodyear Wrangler ST,some have a Wrangler HP,and others will have a Wrangler AT/S (Either blackwall or white letter)

My LT2 came with the aluminum "mag" wheel and a white letter Goodyear Wrangler AT/S tire for a spare.

I don't know what determines what spare wheel or tire a truck gets, although I think it may have something to do with the engine, weight, and model of the truck, but I haven't been able to get comfirmation on that.

It's a basic "custom look" 16" steel wheel. Definitely a looks upgrade from a typical steel wheel that once was used as spares.

Its a 17" spare wheel on the GMT900 trucks,16" won't fit due to front caliper clearance.

And the 7-spoke spare wheel is aluminum, not steel.

Yeah the one on my friends WT is for sure aluminum. My LT2 has the Wrangler black wall AT/S mounted on the steel wheel.

I posted this awhile back on an engine change GM was making on the crew-cab trucks,It mentions the different spare wheels and what trucks get what wheel....

Hey guys this was is in our DealerWorld news today,It only mentions GMC's but my guess is that Chevrolet is going to be the same.....

"Sierra 1500 4WD Crew Cab Engine Change Reminder......As communicated via a Distribution Newsletter earlier this month, beginning November 15th, the usage of 5.3 liter engines for model TK10543 & 1SA / 3SA / 3SB or 4SA will go -----------FROM-------(LH6) Aluminum Block 5.3 liter engine ------TO--------- (LY5) Iron Block 5.3 liter engine.

The (LC9) E85 Flex Fuel 5.3 liter engine will continue to be an option.

No order changes for orders in production are anticipated thus what you originally ordered will be built as ordered.

Orders produced with (LY5) Iron Block 5.3 liter engine will contain an aluminum spare rim whereas orders built with (LH6 or LC9) Aluminum Block 5.3 liter engine will receive a steel spare rim."

On the east side of PA around me most dealers arent really up to date with security, and about 3 out of 10 dealers here have cameras on their lots, and most of their trucks are on a back lot. If I really wanted to go stealing some I could, but im sure if I was spotted with a set of 4 spares and the dealer was missing 4 im sure that wouldnt go over too well. Does anyone have a pic of this wheel? Id love to see what it looks like. If it looks good maybe ill look for some on ebay.

We have a guard thats here anytime the rest of us employees are not (9 at night to 7 in the morning-all day Sunday)

But that still doesn't stop people from stealing stuff,We've had wheels/tires,stereos,snowplow pump motors, bedliners and mirrors stolen from vehicles here.

Our lot is so big that its hard for one guy to watch the whole thing at any one time.
