Please Help! Molly Stranded!

Okay...so I should have known.

I decided to purchase a set of replacement speakers for Molly (my truck), for Easter of course!

Goal:

Replace the tweeter and front speaker with a set of Polk Components

Replace back speaker with 6 1/2 polk

Install Bazooka bass tube in back (pre amp'ed)

Install sony explode 4/channel amp to power the all speakers expect tube

Shat I've done so far

Took door speakers out, left existing wiring, re-wired using a heavier grade.

I still have not tapped into the head unit just yet.

I began by doing one side of the truck, everything went well, began the driver side.  When I finished the passenger side I noticed the door won't open...the door unlocks and locks but you can't open the door from either side.

After being totally pissed, I decided, okay, I screwed something up in the handle, I'll take it to the dealer and get what I deserve.

After I finished the driver side, I Left the window opened (just incase) Finished and guess what...the driver side door won't open either!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm I missing something here? is there a relay, component, switch, prayer, sign, something I missed!

Someone...anyone, first person to help, i'll be more than happy to send them a 6 pack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you get the door panel lined up correctly when you put it back on? Could it be catching on something?

at first that was my initial thought, but checked and double-checked the driver side door...it was working fine, and the only thing I can pinpoint is that when I was done replacing the tweeter, on the driver side, it stopped working. Of course I can be mistaken, but right now, i'm all out of options. I'll take another look.

Anyone else have any ideas?

That's the only thing I can think of...unless there is some relay/adapter/electrical item that i'm missing to go along with the onstar?

Did you disconnect the battery?

I've disconnected the battery, and nothing...

I thought about contacting onstar while in the truck then started to laugh...I have no speakers to hear or speak to them ha ha...but I could just give them a call on my personal phone.

Tomorrow, i'm going to start calling around to audio shops then to the dealership...i'll keep you guys posted so that nobody goes through this...

I just can't see, if I broke something mechanical, that I would do it twice and then it happen only after i took the factory speaker out. But with my luck lately...you never know.

I agree... perhaps you can save us from doing the same thing. Too bad we can't help you out of the jam.

Take the door panels off and hook the "Ball and Hook" back up its the cable that hooks back into door handle on the door panel. You have to make sure you slide the ball from the cable into the hook and snap the grommet in on the top. Thats the ONLY explination for whats happening.

Now the challenge is, doing this with the door still closed...but I have no other choice...i'm going to give it a shot today...wish me luck!

okay, i'm done! Problem solved, case closed!

Woke up this morning and confirmed with the dealership that there was no possible way that it was electrical...it had to be a mechanical malfunction.

So jumped in the truck via the window...and went at it, and started to unbolt the door panel...since the door was closed, there wasn't too much room but I was able to stick my hand to see if there was anything loose around the handle area.

It was the opposite. guess when I pulled the panel off, I pulled the cable too. There was too much play near the handle...I simply pushed and sort of aligned the cable back, and ta da! the door opened...did the same to the passenger side...worked like a charm...

Aside from the fear it happening again...everything is great.

Molly now has a set of polk components up front, and a set of polk's in the back. i also added a bazooka for a little rumble...

What a weekend...i'm probably going to hold off on any additional mods for a while. :)

Thank you for all those that lent a helping hand!

Wow, I'm glad you got it working again. Working on the door while it is closed must have been hell. Thanks for the info. I'm sure other will stumble across this problems eventually. -Al
