Installed Gibson Exhaust on truck in my signature, to follow are just some of my observations on the Gibson Swept Side Exhaust System:

 

- Cost was 340.00 total, on autoanything.com - I am tired of spending 2 and 3 times that amount on an exhaust sytem that someone else enjoys when I trade in the vehicle down the road and in most cases doesn't sound any better anyway.

 

- Installation took 45 minutes including test drive and re-tightening of hardware. Very well built system.

 

- Depending on where you live, the aluminized steel will last for a long time, only get stainless if you really need it. If this rusts out buy another one and you are still money ahead.

 

- Sound is real deep and mellow, about 50% louder than stock, so it is on the quiet side. I for one, get real sick of loud exhast about an hour after I put it on.

 

- Noticable difference in power, rev's quicker.

 

- When switiching from V8 to V4, I could not really hear or feel anything until I set up my DIC and watched it change, then you could pick up on a slight pitch change sounding like bass thru your stereo. In city traffic, with no radio or outside noise you could hear it change. On the highway with stereo on and wind noise, you cannot hear it change.

 

Just my two cents ................. Very good set up and value.

Nice!! Great price too! How is the sound inside? Any drone?

 

 

Inside is mellow, not to loud...no drone.... so far put on about 100 miles mixed driving.

My thoughts exactly, it is a great value and sounds good....I figured worse case is I could rip it off and send it back ..... It's staying on!

UPDATE

 

So far I am very happy with Gibson exhaust; good quality, nice sound, great value....BUT now that I have driven for a while I do note a slight drone while driving in the city when AFM goes into V4 mode. But if you have AFM, you know it rarely switches into V4 in city so it really is not very annoying. On the highway no noticeable drone. Will keep you posted.

The worst part is, for another 30 bucks you can get duals.....so that other pipe and tip only amounts to $30???? Total rip-off, Magnaflows single side system should be $400 max. $100 for the muffler, $150 for the pipes, $50 for the tip, and that's still a $100 proffit.

Did not want duals as in most cases causes problems with spare tire, I have enough problems, don't need to create more.

 

On autoanything.com the Gibson duals are 435.00. almost a 95.00 more. I noticed price has gone up about 25.00 since I bought mine two weeks ago.. go figure.

 

The single outlet Magnaflow on autoanything.com is 565.00, that's 225.00 more, could not justify it...I'm with you 400.00 tops.

 

Not sure why there is such disparity in costs. Even 300.00 is a lot for a couple of pipes and a loud muffler.

 

Like I said in my initial post, I am done throwing expensive parts at these trucks just to sell them, letting the new owner enjoy them.

Good write up, nice to hear your pleased with it. I was never impressed with Gibson though, sounds way too quiet imo. But I'm the type that likes hearing it.

Exactly why you will never see me buy a cat back for a truck. Exhaust doesn't need to cost that much. Go on ebay and search up "14" Magnaflow" and you can get a si/do for $65 ( $70 shipped ) and buy the tips yourself ( $45 each ) and go to a shop and have it installed for a hair over $100. I have $345 invested into my 2500HD's system and I love it, I got the exact sound, and tips that I wanted :cool:

i have the Gibson extreme duals on my SS since 03. had no issues with the spare at all. over time the drone may pick up a little more but nothing to worry about. i got mine in SS and the system still looks good. the tips need to be cleaned better, but that's my lazy a@@ :lol:
