So I Went To The Dealership...

To fix my issue with the rough idiling, and the gas gauge. My engine vibrates a lot and surges when in idle. The RPM gauge also moves quite a bit, and the guy said if there is not a engine light on, we cannot do anything. BS? Also the gas gauge, say I have a half tank of gas, on a hill, it would show more gas than there actually is, and on a downhill, it would show less gas. He said this was normal. BS?

Thanks.

Well the gas gauge part yes, I dont know where the level sensor is but if your parked in a certain position, the fuel gauge can be higher cause the sensor is flooded, or less cause its not in any gasoline.

Not checking your truck even when it runs rough, I wouldn't be too happy. Since it appears to be an issue there must be a fix/recall in the future for it.

my wife's impala is doing exactly the same thing and the mechanic thinks it's dirt or water being picked up from the tank. He says the only way to tell for sure is drop the tank and inspect of course the warranty is up now.

Maybe try a different dealership?

That would be my suggestion as well. As far as the gas tank, I think that is pretty cut and dry... pending on which way you are facing on a hill, it should read more or less gas than is actually in the tank.

The gas gauge fluctuations sound normal; the laws of physics still apply in your gas tank :P As far as the idle problems go, I'm not sure. If it gets worse, take it again. This way you're on record as reporting the problem.

my trucks is older than your guys but my gas gauge will change if i hit the gas or stop +/- a 1/4 tank sometimes

He's right about the gas guage when it comes to hills. But as for the engine if it's idling rough and the RPM's are surging there is deffinatley an issue and the computer probably needs reflashed.

Try unhooking your negative battery cable and let it sit for thirty minutes; see if this helps the rough idle. If anything was seriously wrong though, I would think that the truck would be throwing an SES light.

As for the gas gauge that is normal. The engine surging could be just about anything from a leaking vaccum line to water in the gas line to poor gas.

I do have that whistling sound sometimes, maybe that could be causing the rough idiling. I think it's funny how our old beater 1990 Honda Civic gas always showed accurately no matter what, but my 07 truck does not. No biggie though.

Look for a vacumn leak. That WILL cause rough idling.

Well with that much smaller fuel tank you can expect a more acurate level, this is a full size pickup remember.
