sradney Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 I have a 1996 GMC Sierra 1500 2wd Extended Cab it has a 4L60E in it. However it needs replacing. My question is if one from a '98 work/bolt up/wire up w/o lots of modifications. I have been told that the trans in a '96 will only work with the 96-97 (hard to find) pick up. Please advise if the information I've been told is correct. And if there are modifications required, then what are they?

sradney Posted March 30, 2008 Author Posted March 30, 2008 have it rebuilt or call around to junkyards and recyclers, i came across the 96 5.7 vortec and the auto trans last month in a wreecked truck, both good, 175$ and 80$ for both respectively ok rebuilding is $1500 the same price as a new one. Junk yards around here only have year models near 96 not the exact 96. Or if they do then they are 4x4.
