Zembonez Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Isn't the 5.3 a variant of the 305? NO. 305 is also an old generation small block like the 350. As was the 283, 327, etc. 4.8, 5.3, 6.0 and 6.2 are new generation engines.

Look at the displacements: 5700/8 = 712.5 cc per cylinder. 4300/6 = 716 cc per cylinder. Ford tried a similar thing awhile back, using the architecture of their 351 V8 to create a V6 and it didn't work out so well. The 5.3 is completely different. The 4.8 is a destroked and debored version, while the 6.0 and the 6.2 are stroked and bored versions.
