Which Grill Guard Should I Get?

Recommended Posts

I have been looking at grille guards for awhile now and was wondering which ones you guys have used and liked. I'm thinking of these 2. Which one would be stronger?

Westin

BIG TEX

Neither one will offer any real protection. If you hit a cat maybe... but a large dog will wipe you out. A deer will take it out for sure. (No I don't advocate hitting animals!)

They are really for looks. Westins fold up if you look at them wrong and they take out the hood and grill in the process. Ranch Hand or Browns Welding products are somewhat tougher but if you get it too stiff in front, it bends the frame when you hit something. Sortof one of those darn if you do - darn it you don't situations. Many of them look good on the truck though.

I like the Westin from a looks standpoint.

I have a Westin. Like Zembonez says, it's more for looks that anything else. I like the fact that I can mount my off-road lights on them instead of bolting them to the bumper.

Well Sportsland in Rogersville, MO wanted to sell me a Big Tex for 800 bucks and I was kinda shocked. Then when I got on Go Industries website and saw the Rancher and I love it. I can get it for about 650 shipped to my door, I'm not sure if it is stronger but it looked better IMO. The Ranch Hand ones look pretty nice but there isn't a dealer that close to me.

Of those 2 that you were looking at I like the Westin 10 times better! If you really want one for protection you should get one of thse Bumper/grill guards with the mounting place for a winch!

I like the looks of the Westin the best too. But I do want some front end protection and I've heard that the Westins can't provide it. I don't kno though.

Heres what else I am thinking. The Hammered Finish looks good to me.

I had a Westin on a previous truck and it bent all to hell in a fairly minor front end collision. Luckily it wasn't my fault so it didn't cost me anything but it mucks up the front of your truck pretty good. if anything it's probably safer to have it on because it's more to crumple and absorb the impact.

I bet he made his decision some time in the last 2 years . . .

:D

You are probably right, but other people looking for grille guards may research the thread. Now, they will have that much more information. :D
