Does Anyone's Dome Light Rattle?

Recommended Posts

I have a 08 Sierra ext. cab and the dome light rattles. It isn't by any means defective. It looks good and fits perfectly but, with the rest of the truck being so quiet with the windows up it gets pretty annoying.

Is there anything I can do to stop it short of taking it to the dealer who will just replace it with another one that will probably rattle as well?

I thought about taking the cover off and sticking foam earplugs up there but, I don't want to see the outline of earplugs evertime I open the door or turn the light on.

I've noticed the same thing in my 2009 Sierra Ext. Cab. If I place just a little bit of pressure on the dome light, the rattle stops. It doesn't do it all the time either.

Let's us know if you get the dealer to fix it or if you come up with a solution. I have thought about pushing part of a business card between the lamp and the surround to try and stop the rattling, but it wouldn't look that great. Minor annoyance, this and the body mount popping (need to take it to the dealer for that one).

My headliner rattles. I thought it was the dome light for the longest time until I held the headliner up over bumps. I had some pipe insulation (that round, thick stuff) that I cut to size and place in between the foam bumpers between the headliner and the roof. The insulation I cut was a little larger so it pushes down a little bit on the headliner and keeps it from moving. Has worked great so far and you cannot tell it's in there.

My truck does the same darn thing and it drives me up the wall. Just started doing it when I put my exhaust on. At a certain RPM it vibrates that thing like crazy.

I'm thinking of putting a shim on one side, not sure what material yet, but all it need is to be tightened up. The light cover plate is what is rattleing on mine.

in the dome light, there are small pieces of metal, these are what were rattling on mine. i took a small piece of electrical tape and folded behind one of them. no more noise.

That's a good idea. I am hoping I'll have a little time to check this out this weekend. Glad to hear I am not the only one with the issue.
