Brake Controller Mounting 07/08 Ltz Interiors

For 2007^1/2/08 dash: For those who did not opt for the GM integrated brake conroller, the LTZ interior is difficult to find a convenient spot for mounting an aftermarket unit. Often is not viewable or reachable by driver, interferes with knee, shin or whatever or can look to be sort of added-on.

 

I took some time to read other forums, look at pics and have come up with my solution to mount a Tekonsha P3. This is the newest and certainly seems to be an excellent Tekonsha product. My second Tekonsha (5 problem free years with a "Sentinnel")

 

It is mounted under the dash valence on the extreme RHS above the gas (fuel) pedal. It slants upwards to allow for easy viewing by the driver of the very informative screen display and varous settings. I had to design/fabricate a custom bracket, but it was worth it. Other minor mounting details were easily solvable. I will insert a few images. If anyone is interested, I can provide more deatils. Many other forum users (especially full-size truck/SUV) one, helped me a lot. Hope this gives some alternatives for a real tidy functional mount arrangement.

How about any problems with it getting in the way?

I don't have a pic but my brake controller is mounted to the right-hand side of, and just below, the steering wheel. It is a Tru-Control that mounts horizontally. I made a bracket that screws into the small (about 1") flattish area where the bottom panel curves up joins the top panel with the radio control etc. This is completely out of the way. The same could probably be done for a vertical mount type controller.

No, absolutely none. As I mention, this could be problem in this 07/08 dash design. Not much foot/leg room for some drivers at the dash valence at least, left hand side or right. Also, it's never even noticed climbing in or out of the truck, as might be on the park brake side. I picked this location, cause it's completely free and clear of my knee/foot etc., and even for my 5 ft. tall daughters who sits up tight to the wheel It's also nowhere near interfering with your foot at the gas pedal. It truly was the best location I believe for this interior design. The Teknonsha P3 can apparently be mounted from level to stright vertical, so tilt doesn' matter at all. Mine though sits at about 20 degrees maybe.

I don't know If the NBS have any braces that attach from the dash to the transmission hump like the older style does. On my '01 Yukon I used a "Goose Neck" from a CD holder I had laying around.

 

Just a Idea, I hated drilling holes if I can avoid it (And I did!)

That is the exact same location that I mounted mine in my '05. It has never gotten in the way, and has easy access.

yess there is a support brace. However, I didn't need to drill any holes in the plastic. Behind the valence is that big "w" profile shaped support brace. I just had to drill one hole up vertically through it to secure my mount. Doesn't seem to vibrate at all.
