Accident Today

Yup, I saw an accident today, well the results of one anyways. I'm not too sure if anyone was hurt - my guess is not seriously if anything.

There was a GMC Sierra (GMT-800) - That T-boned a Buick Regal. Needless to say, the buick was thrown across the intersection and rested on the front of a Church property. The GMC will need a new hood, grille and front bumper - but besides that it looked fine - the rad wasn't even cracked. However, the buick looked like it was a writeoff.

Good 'ol trucks!

There must be something in the air or the Moon. I actually saw a container truck (16-18 wheeler) roll over on its right side this morning on my way to work. I was the first one at the seen, actually help the driver get out. I had to hold him up so that he could unbuckle the seat belt. He was not hurt. There were several concerned folks screaming about the leaking diesel from his tank. They were still unsure when I told them it was diesel............

true, but its vaor pressure is such that it would have a hard time sustaining buring from a spill, on its own, on the ground....

matter of fact, JP8 (military aviation kerosene) is a close relative of automotive diesel... they just add MORE additives to keep the flash point higher. Last thing you want at sea is a fuel fire.

GASOLINE, on the other hand..... :bs:

I learned at a young age that diesel worked well to start fires. Bonfires, tree piles, tires, etc. I also learn that gas doesn't work as well. It's more fun, but not as good :shakehead::bs:

Wait a minute, are you tryin' to tell me that big rigs don't explode with a huge ball of flames when they turn over?

Hogwash!! I see it all the time in the movies. You were lucky that truck didn't blow up on you!!

I always found bonfires more enjoyable with grain alcohol.... :bs:

Speaking of fires and movies, many years ago I came upon a traffic jam in the middle of no where on a highway. Turns out it was a carburetor fire. I drove up beside the line of cars and came upon someone holding cars back saying it was going to blow up! I shook my head and drove past. I didn't have any water or fire extinguisher with me so I let it burn. I suppose I could have thrown some dirt on it.

Only saw a car on fire once. I was driving the other way on the interstate, and there were two guys in what looked like a construction work truck trying to put out a fire that was coming from what looked like behind the cab. Now I did see this at the last minute, going 70 in the other direction, so I could be wrong, but :(.

I T-boned a truck that ran a stop sign a while back while driving a 2000 Trooper doing about 45. The impact totaled the Trooper but not before the fire under the hood. It was not much of a fire, we just could not get it to stay out. There were five dry chemical extinguishers used, each putting out the fire only to re-ignite. Finally a fire truck came and sprayed about 1000 gallons of water on it which finally put it out. The fire was right at the intake manifold so I believe it was gasoline fueled, just not sure why it kept re-lighting, there must have been some kind of syphoning affect on the fuel line and some thing really hot. :D

I did play it safe and empty all of my personal things just in case there was an explosion :(
