Well, I took my truck out for a test drive on a local airport runway and among all the excitement I must have knocked it into 3rd the whole time. I wondered why it would only do 100! Dumb !@# me. Do you think it hurt the transmission? What's sad is I'm an Airline Pilot and a flight instructor that always pay attention to every little detail. Just not this time.

You didn't hurt it, just a couple thousand more rpm's, that's all.

dont even worry about it. after you see your fuel guage, youll forget all about running it in 3rd

unless you had a custom tune, that s all you ll get cause of the limiter. I dont even think mine would hit 100 until after the tune. You didn t do any damage though.

Yup. The stock speed limiter (at least on my truck) is at 98 mph. I don't think they changed it for the new trucks either. 100 in third is absolutely fine (for the truck). I'm glad to see you did it on a runway, not the highway.

I noticed you have a Predator Tune listed in your sig... Did you specifically go in and readjust the speed limiter? If not, the factory speed limit is still in play and you'll likely be cut off at 98, like everyone else is saying.

I was shocked and appalled that they put a 98 mph speed limiter on a 400 hp truck. After I hit that a couple of times, I immediately ordered a hand-held, to turn that junk off. (I know, I know - A handheld doesn't give you as good of a tune as a "real" tune.. At the time, all I wanted was to get rid of that stupid speed limiter. So, I got what I wanted. )

Turning off the speed limiter may help you run over the set limit BUT you still have tires rated only for 102 mph.

If you hadn't copied my reply in your message, I would've left this alone - thinking you were directing it at the OP. As my sig states, I am not still running the stock tires & wheels on my truck. V-rated tires are rated for "up to 149 mph." Will my truck ever see that speed? HIGHLY unlikely...! That said, though, I would MUCH rather have some "cushion" built-in, in between what it will see and what it the limits are claimed to be.

And besides, as sue-happy as the American public is, if the stock tires were designed to instantly fly apart at 102 mph, I am SURE General Motors wouldn't be flirting with disaster, by putting a speed limiter in the trucks at only 4 mph less than the speed rating for the tires...

My V-Max was limited at 92mph when it was stock, I tuned and removed the speed limiter. I had it going at 120mph the other day.

I removed the speed limiter with the Predator, so thats why it concerns me. Although I didn't adjust the rpm limits so hopefully it's ok.

My 08' cuts off at 90. It sucks that I always can't be at the head of the line on the freeway.

Your fine. The engine should also have a rev limiter which would have cut out if you over ran the engine.

Not a big deal, but last time I looked, "S" Speed rating was 112 MPH.

It's not just the tire speed rating. These vehicles are a lot less stable at high speeds than cars and are prone to a violent rollover if you have a high speed tire blowout.
