Way Too Much Info On Search For Someone With Adhd

Hey all, this is one of my few posts that might actually be considered legitimate. I know that 99.9% of you guys have tunes in addition to cai, exhaust, etc. I plan on leaving MY engine completely stock. I don't even plan on putting on cai or an exhaust. I do, however, want a tune. Here is a small compilation of what I would like to accomplish.

1. The biggest issue is losing the 4 sec. delay at wot.

2. I need the ability to return to a stock tune at a moments notice without having to swap out pcms.

3. I need to maintain a certain level of reliability/dependability. I plan on having this truck a very very long time.

4. I like the idea of the handhelds that offer three different tunes (ie. performance, economy, towing)

Economy tune would come in handy on road trips and keep the dw happy.

5. Huge gains in hp/tq is not necessary but appreciated. I do not want to lose low-end torque as I will be towing a rather heavy travel trailer.

6. The ability to adjust for larger tires in the future would also be a nice feature, but it's not a must.

As you can see, I'm not really asking for much. Just something to fix my over-nannified truck.

I would say go with a custom tune, because no hand held I have seen has been able to take off the 4 second delay. My truck doesn't have the delay anymore and it is awesome.

Look at Wait4Me. I know that some think Jesse is a 'hack' but he sells a handheld that he loads 3 custom tunes on in addition to the handheld holding your original stock tune as well. His gains aren't quite as high as some of the PCM tuners but they're darn close I hear. I'm going to get a custom tune sooner or later and it'll be from Jesse just because of the fact I have a handheld with 3 custom tunes and have the capability to return to stock in an instant. I've talked to Justin at Black Bear and while he may be a better tuner, I don't want to send my PCM and have to do a crank relearn. I, like you, just mostly want my 4 second delay taken out and Wait4Me will do that and then some..

Hang tight for a little while and you can have the best of both worlds.

Justin at Blackbear is an EFI Live tuner and they are coming out with a handheld. With this handheld you will be able to log your truck, e-mail the file to Justin so he can give you a truly custom tune, he will e-mail the tune(s) back to you, you load them using the handheld. The Handheld will also have the capability of doing a Crank Relearn should you decide to get a spare set of modules and it will have all of the other handheld capabilities too (tire sizes, gears, etc).

Call Justin at Blackbear Performance and ask him about this.

+1 I went with EFILive and a Justin tune and love it. EFILive is a little pricey compared to a handheld but the email option for updates to the tune is priceless. If the handheld works the same and you want to save a few $$ I would consider waiting as well.

I don't think your Silverado has a 4 second delay, it's only on the 2007 NBS Silverado. I have a Black Bear Performance Tune and it is the best 200 dollars I have ever spent. What tuning program does Jesse at Wait4me use? Plus I have heard that Jesse doesn't want to remove TM, and that is what everybody wants to remove that and the 4 second delay.

At WOT, your engine will stay in closed loop for 4 seconds before entering open loop (Power Enrichment). Usually, engines enter open loop immediately at WOT for maximum power. Open loop means the engine stops receiving/processing data from some sensors to adjust timing, a/f ratio etc.

Well my 99 has that delay. At a light I was reading a reciept and I mashed it because the people behind me were honking, and it went up to 1800 rpms until i got through the light then it burnt rubber and went sideways and took off like a bat out of hell but even the older trucks have some sort of abuse crap.

It's being made by EFI Live. It's still in BETA testing as we speak.

I would highly recommend calling Justin and getting more details from him about the EFI Live handheld. But yes, I do believe it will hold several tunes, including your stock tune.

Justin does not have definite pricing yet, but he estimates it will run competitive to the others, probably in the $300 range. His tunes are $200. So you are looking at about $500 for the handheld unit and the tune. If this is too steep, you don't HAVE to buy it, he will send you one of his for logging and loading the tune, and then you send it back to him. But then you would need it sent back to you for returning to stock. Not a great option IMO.

I believe Jesse's tunes *cough,hack,cough* are about the same price for the new trucks and his handheld is probably also about $300.

The choice is obvious IMO.

I have also heard HP Tuners is developing a handheld too, but I have NO definite info on that.

I don't think the 800 series necessarily have the infamous "4 second delay" like the 900 series do. But there is a definate lack of power or "delay" at WOT off the line. And that's basically just fuel/timing adjustments that most custom tunes will "fix" for you without even asking.

Jesse does use EFILive and is an authorized distributor, so he should at least have the "option" of using the Autocal (EFI Handheld) when it's finally released. In the meantime, he does offer the SCT Handheld with 3 custom tunes. It sure does make going back to stock quite easy. I don't have much info on the 900 series though - you could call of course.

Wait4Me pricing is pretty much always right at $75 for a tune only, any vehicle. 2nd vehicle tune is $50. The only additional costs are the hardware, such as the handheld, PCM's, etc. And that will of course vary depending on your particular application.

Oh, and for the 100th time, Jesse is not a "hack," Jeff.
