Gm Touring Exhaust

Can anyone tell me if the GM Touring CatBack exhaust is made for the 6.0L VMAX. I've looked at my local dealers website and it says 4.3 or 5.3, but doesn't list the 6.0. Any help (part #'s, price,etc.) would be great. Thanks

Doing a quick look on gmaccessoriesstore.com didn't show the GMPP cat back not being available for a VMax. It only makes reference to cab style and box length.

Well guys I checked into this....I called our area GM accessories distributor and heres what he told me....He said the pipe coming out of the converter is a different size on the 5.3's as opposed to the 6.0's.

"However"....CORSA's system works on both the 5.3 & the 6.0 engine. :)

So I don't understand that explaination...How could the CORSA system work on either engine,but the GM system doesn't?!? :banghead:

My question is, why is it that Corsa makes and exhaust that doesn't require the removal of the spare tire while the GMPP one does. The rep said that the GMPP one works specifically so that it breaks away from the truck in the event of an accident and that was the reasoning for it.

Hey guys...It gets more confusing...I know that the GM system is listed for the 4.8 or 5.3 engines,However I just noticed that the CORSA system is listed for the 5.3 or 6.0 engines,But not the 4.8.

 

Now..If the GM system fits the 4.8 or 5.3,and the CORSA system fits the 5.3 or 6.0,Why wouldn't the GM system fit the 6.0 and the CORSA system fit the 4.8?!? :banghead:

No,Its because the pipes are too close to the spare and can melt it.

Seems about right!

 

He said exactly what you stated, remove the tire and buy an inflater. If Corsa can make a system the goes around the tire, why can GM?

I work with GM Accessories and have been told a couple of things. First, it is true that the heat from the exhaust would heat the spare and would most likely cause the spare to go bad. Second, the reason for not re-routing the exhaust is for safety in a collision. Hot pipes are designed to go somewhere in an impact, so they stay as far away from the fuel tank as possible. This is why your exhaust comes out on the opposite side of the truck from the fuel door. With dual outlet exhaust they had to keep the exhaust bent in a way to prevent this from happening unless you remove the spare, they could not accomplish this. I'm sure they are still gunshy from the problems 20 years ago or so. Also I recomment the performance exhaust over the touring. Touring sounds stock.

Why does the GMPP dual exhaust for the GMT800s not require removal of the spare but the one for GMT900s do? Is there just less room due to a different design?

Yea, he said break away from the truck in the event of a collision.

 

How does the Performance Exhaust sound? I love the Corsa sound but if I get the GMPP (Borla from what I heard) I will have to sacrifice the loud rich tone of the Corsa.
