Access Cover

Thinking of purchasing an Access Bed Cover (Limited or Lorado). I have been reading here that some people are having problems fitting this brand of covers around the tailgate spoiler area. I have also read that putting a smooth tailgate protector (GM # 17802389) will cure this problem.

 

If you look on the Access web page the covers on the NBS Chevy/GMC seem to fit perfect. Has anyone here had good luck installing their Access Cover while keeping the factory tailgate protector on? Thanks

I installed mine with little issues. It does hit the tailgate spoiler a bit, but I see it as a way to help keep water out. When you install it, you need to set the side rails a bit higher in the back to help minimze the rub issue.

I have the Access Vanish on my '07 NBS Sierra and I did not have a problem.

I love my access too. The have the gasket as well I got a lot of water and dirt in the bed before I installed it.

I never put the side gaskets in and never had a dirt issue in the bed and I go up and down dirt roads daily.

I've had Access and Truxedo (pretty much clones of each other) on my last 4 trucks. No problems at all with fitting at the tailgate.

 

Depending on your truck model you may want to put on the tailgate seal kit. On my previous trucks I did without it, and didn't have too much leakage (except fine dust on gravel roads). However, the 08 tailgate seems to have more clearance around it, and the seals are a must on it.

Nope, it never comes in, I never u nderstood the hype on the seals, maybe my body lines are that tight that it doesnt come in, i dont know but I have never washed my bed out due to dirt inside from driving. The only dirt that gets in is from hauling stuff.

I wouldn't bother with it, as the toneau is never going to keep the bed 100% dry IMO.

My tonneau does. I never had a drop EVER of water come in from my tonneau. The only way it could come in is if i sunk it under water and it would come in the tailgate gaps. If I close the tailgate during the day I cant see ANY light other then a very very faint light from the tailgate gap, and I have never had any water inside, I have even parked it on a very very steep hill with the tailgate in the direction of the rain running towards the bottom and the rain never came in blowing straight at it and blowing every other way. Mine is 100 percent dry, and even my dads no name cover keeps his perfectly dry.

The shop I'm purchasing the Access Lorado cover from suggested getting the tailgate gasket kit as they feel the NBS leaks more than the previous model. So, one gasket kit on order as well.
