Bad Mods

Okay, I kind of started this subject in the mods post a while back, however that was for all mods.

Here, I just want you to tell us what you (or a friend) has done that was a complete waste of money. It could save someone else a few bucks later.

For instance:

I installed the new"Garbage Dump Fuel Swirler" which claimed to give me 35hp and a 15% increase in mileage. I now have a huge vacuum leak and get 4mpg on the highway. The company won't take it back because I have to bring them the truck in order to ensure that it  is not my engine's problem. The company is located in Guam!

See what I'm after?

I had a lund lunar visor installed on my 99 and no matter what installer did it vibrated in the wind or when I was behind a big truck. I am glad to be rid of that. By the way how long would it take to drive to Guam. LOL

I find it hard to believe that nobody in this forum has been disappointed with something that they bought for their truck.

I'm sure that I would have made a mistake or two if I could afford to buy something. But right now it's all I can do to make the payments!

Is this forum getting some kind of boycott or something?

I havn't done any engine mods except for a drop in K&N filter.  I do have an accessiries mod that I really didn't like if you want it posted here.

I haven't done any bad performance mods to any of my vehicles because I research them and go for testimonials from people who have done similar mods to trucks like mine.

The only thing I would undo is the carbon fiber dash kit I installed in my truck.

It looks ok but it's just nothing very special.

One thing i would NEVER do again is buy and "over the rail" bedliner! My truck is so scratched up on the rails that its horrable! If i would have known, i would have gotten an under the rail liner, then put a tonnau cover on the bed.

I bought a set of Bushwhacker Bed rail protectors that were not really cut right to fit mytruck.  They said they were for mine, but the stake pocket hole were not lined up and the hole them self were not all the same size.  I never installed them, just boxed them back up and returned them.

On the subject of over the rail bed liners.  I had one in my '91 and it warped really bad on the over the rail part, plus scratched the top of the bed rails up pretty bad.  I ended up getting rid of it and getting the top part repainted.

The front swaybar on my '76 Sub didn't seem to make much if any difference over the stock one.  The rear swaybar made a HUGE difference.  If I had known I would have just added the rear and left the front alone.

The other mods I have made (headers, intake, ignition upgrades, etc) have all been good stuff that made a noticeable difference in performance and gas mileage.

I don't really have any major disappointments on stuff I have done.  Of course, due to lack of funds I haven't done many mods.

The only thing I have done is add back speakers to the stock stereo, put a rubber bed mat in the bed, put a lock on the tail gate, and added a bungee net to the bed. All of those mods were pretty cheap and well worth the money.

No mods engine wise yet.  Was real disappointed with the Blind spotz mirrors (lost one after 2 days).  Fortunately, the manufacturer was gracious enough to send a replacement pack for refund.
