My truck is throwing a P0449 and I'm looking to replace the Vent Valve Solenoid. Can someone give me the GM part number for just the plain Evap Canister Vent Valve Solenoid? I can't find it anywhere.I have a 2004 2WD Silverado Reg Cab Long Bed w/4.3L (LU3).I'd prefer not to do the Vent Valve Kit - I don't drive off road and I don't seem to be throwing a P0446 that the TSB calls out.Can someone help me out?Thanks.- Joe

Thanks for the quick reply.Well, maybe that would explain why I couldn't find it! The funny thing is, the only reason I could find the part number for the Vent Valve Kit was because I saw it mentioned in the TSB [ 02-06-04-037 ] and other places here on the message boards. You would think they would list the old part number and reference the new one so that you know its obsoleted.

Hopefully someone can help.

Based on the TSB I ordered Vent Valve Kit P/N:19152349 for a 2004 or later Silverado. However, when I went to install my kit, I came to the conclusion that I had the wrong part. It was impossible to mount the Vent Valve on the existing due to clearance issues in both the front and the back.

My Vent Valve is over the front of the gas tank like - is it possible that I need the 2003 and earlier kit?

Did you ever resolve this problem? I'm in the same spot with a 2004 silverado extended cab 4.3L, but I haven't ordered anything yet.

I'm still in the same boat. I went to the dealer to pick up another part this morning and I inquired again about the part and they mentioned the same part again and didn't know anything about the possibility of needing an '03 part.

The key is my Vent Valve looks like its the '03 configuration from the TSB. The vent valve is over the front of the gas tank right between the cab and the bed. I believe that the '03 kit comes with a new bracket that changes the orientation and replacement hard fuel vent hose clips both of which it seems I need.

I may be forced to just order the '03 part to try it out.

Check this thread for images of where the Evap Vent Valve is located. Mine is in the 2B location.

I just put the 2003 kit in my 2004 Silverado. It is the correct kit. The ACDelco part number is 2142081. Install is pretty easy, once the old valve assembly is removed. The new valve includes a 6-8 inch electrical extension that was plenty long enough. It also includes a new pipe to the evap cannister, with 2 clips, and a new mounting bracket. The only funny thing is that the new valve's connection to the filter box ends up pointing the wrong way: toward the rear. But the 5/8" hose that I used could be easily curved around to point toward the transmission. The key to all this is to figure out which kit to order for the specific truck that needs fixing. If you look down between the cab and bed, and see a shiny black plastic pipe, about 3/4" O.D. secured with two black plastic clips, then you need the 2003 kit.

I'm curious to know if this ACDelco 2142081 part fixed the check engine light/P0449 (my first 3 times, it was P0449, the last time it was P0455). My 2003 Chevy Z71 extended cab (5.3L, 120,000 miles) just started doing this (P0449). My first attempt to fix, I pulled the evap vent solenoid from the top of the front of my tank between the cab and bed, then disassembled, cleaned, sealed, and put back in. No code/light for about 2 days, then it came back on (P0449). Bought a new fuel cap from the dealer, no code/light for 4 days, then the light comes back on today (P0455). Do I need the ACDelco 2142081 part? Should this fix it? Does this part relocated the solenoid? Do I also need to replace my vapor canister? It is in front of the tank now. Will I need to relocate it to the side of the tank? Thank you for the help.

I put part 2142081 (from Rockauto) on my early 2004 Silverado 4.3L extended cab. I had code P0449. Fixed it perfectly. Reset computer. Code gone permanently. My old vent solenoid had no electrical continuity when I tested it. Coil was open. The computer senses this and throws code P0449. Test it before you replace it.

Just to add to this topic, I've been troubled by this code for a few months, on a 03 5.3L Silverado. When I found that the GM replacement was a remote 2 piece kit that my dealer quoted me at $190.+, I decided to go with the thread I read recently about the 06 Suburban Vent Valve Solenoid was the exact same part as the original, only costing around $30. at the GM parts counter. After going yesterday and picking this up, I went home and wrestled the old one off my truck, kinda hard to release the large hose with the tight room where the valves' located at. BUT, when I put the old one next to the new one, the small vent tank on the NEW one is larger, and round, compared to the smaller, oval tank on the original. I tried to see if the new would fit at the same location, but not enough room. SO,O,O,O, I lifted the small plastic tab on top of the solenoid that released the tank, and rotated the solenoid which about a third of a turn, comes out of the tank. I took the new one apart same way, and saw that the nozzle of the new solenoid was about a 1/2" longer, and slightly bigger around. I measured this from the old one, cut off the new one at the "ring" which had 2 tabs that fit into the tank to lock it on. I then used a high-speed 1/8" air grinder to taper the larger, round nozzle down to the smaller diameter where the "O" ring sits close to the body of the solenoid, except for 2 tabs I left at approximately the same location as on the old solenoid. Fit it in the old, oval tank, and replaced it on the truck, no code now!
