Hood Deflector Issue?

Hey all;I installed a hood deflector made by Fox Trail (I think) on my 08 Silverado. I've noticed since that when I get to 100 kph and over, I hear an annoying noise; I can only describe it as identical to the sound of raindrops hitting the windshield when you're driving. I'm thinking it might be some kind of wind buffeting the windshield due to changes in the wind flow over the truck, but then again I suppose it could be entirely unrelated and only coincidental that I noticed it a few days after I had the deflector installed. Has anyone else had/heard of a similar issue with a wind deflector? If it turns out to be the deflector, is there a brand name that we know doesn't cause this problem? I've noticed new Silverados with wind deflectors and most look nice, but I've seen a few that aren't so nice, but I don't know who makes what.

you should do a search and see how many people have this problem, it is the wind hitting the trim on the side of the windshield, most people have taken two sided tape and installed it between the window and the trim on the sides.

I put one on Silverado 2000 EXT Cab and it caused the roof to vibrate real loud at about 75 to 80 MPH. Seems to be not much structure there!

I know this was a problem on my 99. The airflow is getting under the molding around the edges of the window. You can silicone around it, or others have put something under it.

Did the same thing on mine too.I removed mine and it went away

I put the GM hood deflector on my truck right after I bought it. I also had issues with the noise on the windshield. I took it back to my dealer and the tech put some double-sided tape under the side windshield moulding. That cured my problem.

I have the same problem...not sure what you did to fix it? when you mean "the window" do you mean the front windsheild? Where did you put the silicone? Do you have any pics to show where and how much you put down? My noise is only there when I am above 60 mph. I didn't add the side windvents yet because of the wind noise from the front bug deflector....

As was already stated, the problem is the wind flow around the windshield moldings causing them to flap. The GM bug deflector comes with heavy duty 3M double sided tape that is installed under the molding. The local parts store should carry this tape. It usually has a red wax paper on both sides. To install, cut the tape to the height of the windshield, remove the wax paper from the windshield side, lift the moulding and slide the tape under. At the top of the tape, peel back about 2" of the wax paper that would adhere to the molding and fold it over at a 90* so it will stick out from under the molding. As you pull the wax paper down the windshield, press down on the molding to make it adhere. I don't recommend removing the wax paper from both sides and then sliding under the molding as it will stick to whatever it touches. Good luck.
