My friend is looking into buying a new pickup. It is a 2002 Silverado z71 from texas with 170,000 miles on it. It looks solid and well taken care of. It has all the power stuff 5.3 and all. They want $7000 for it. Is it really worth it. My uncle has a 99 z71 and that blew the tranny around 150,000 highway miles(construction worker). Thanks

I have the exact same setup, except ~80,000 miles less...I have had it about 4 years, and its still going strong. My last truck blew the tranny at 130,000 miles, but it was a farm truck and was driven pretty hard. I wouldn't be surprised if that trucks tranny is new. I'd say have a mech look it over real well. I'm guessing it has 3.73 gears?

I would definately have a mechanic check everything over. 7K sounds like a lot of money for that many miles, but it might be worth it.

That's what I was thinking, If the tranny hasn't been replaced I think i'd kinda stay away from it but if thats been replaced, it might last. Like I said it was only brought up from texas this spring so its pretty solid.

I sold my 2002 ext cab 2wd with a 4.8 and 3.73 at 182,000 highway miles for $6500 and it was in mint condition. Check the hour meter that will tell you how many hours compared to how many miles, my average speed was 45mph which indicates alot of highway miles. In contrast a buddy that drives an 03 as a courier has an average speed of 18mph which indicates lots of stop and go miles. Big difference in how the power train will last.

My opinion, 5500 or 6000. Also depends if she is extended cab.

:D

Whoops I kinda forgot about that... It is ext. cab

could be a nice deal but I am seeing the 06/07 silverado classics, with 30-40k miles on them, auto, v6, cd, chromes, for around 9990 right now. Yes your definitely getting something more loaded, but also loaded with alot more miles. Over 120k more to be exact, might want to take a look on autotrader or craigslist, into these late model silverado classics, I think you'd be much more happy with something for 2k more that would last at least 2x as long probably much longer.

Thats my .02
