Bringing Back A Ndw Truck To Dealer For A Check Up?

This is my first new vehicle purchase. I order it and received it in March of 2007. The Sierra I have now has 8500 miles on it and it has not been back to the dealer for anything nor have I received any notification about service due, etc. Obviously I have done an oil change or two but do these trucks need to "go back" for a checkup?

I am starting to collect a few minors things that they can look at so I can lump it all together. The automatic dimming of the radio and instrumentation is not right ; sometimes in bright daylight you cant see anything. I have had a couple friends tell me usually the dealer will contact you to come back in, but I haven't heard or read anything in the manual about that.

But I don't like the dealership I bought from. The only reason I went there was because a relative knew a salesman who wound up giving me an "ok" deal. But he is a loser and I hope he didn't get any commision for the sales after the bashing i gave him with the follow up letter GM sent me after delivery. This salesman made me wait alomost an hour to pick up my truck when we had already scheduled a time to do it. I waited while he was working on a new deal and my truck was sitting there waiting to go. Then he asks if I could put the plates on it. But he was "nice enough" to set up the onstar for me while he smoked a cigarette on the outside and let his ashes fall all over the door panel when he reached in to work the onstar controls. Rant over...

Typically you don't go back in just for a check-up. The dealers usually only want to see you if you've got a problem. As long as you're changing the oil every so often and taking care of your tires, you should be fine.

+1. You dont need to go to the dealer if you dont want to. You can do all your own maintenance and repairs, or take it to an independent shop.

depends on the dealer prices vs independent. mine (Henna Chevy) has had competitive prices and always notifies me of things that are broken (tie rods up the ass) and fixed them under warranty
