Hello everyone, my name is Doug, I live in Evansville, IN and I was recently able to buy myself a newer truck. I’m a disabled Veteran and after fighting with the VA for two years I received a back pay lump sum and was able to use that money as a down payment for a 2001 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT 5.3L 4X4. It is the Canadian made model, 2 being the first number in the VIN.

I work part time because of my disabilities and can not afford to take my truck to the dealer to have them tell me something minor that I can fix here.

The problem started with a code Po171 and Po173 for lean O2 sensor readings. I tried to contact the previous owner to ask him about his maintenance on the truck, but could not get a hold of him. So, I changed all 4 O2 sensors. The reading was still there and it was suggested that the MAF sensor might be bad, so I replaced that too. I replaced the Evap solenoid valve on top of the intake and the fuel filter. Now I’m getting a code Po300, misfire multiple cylinders. I checked all of the plug wires, their all tight. I pulled 4 random plugs, checked the gaps and checked to see how they looked. Everything was fine. I have checked all of the fuses, even the ones for the interior lights, All good! I used a multi meter with the key on and off and there was nothing that popped a red flag.

The 171 and 173 codes are now gone.

After replacing the Evap solenoid the truck ran fine for about 50 miles(the battery was unplugger for about 30 minutes, I gave it extra time to clear the codes) then SES light came back on and that’s when I got the 300 code.

I am at my wits end trying to figure out what to do next, other than taking it into the dealer and be charged money I do not have to spare.

If anyone reads this and has any suggestions, please reply.

Hi there and welcome to GM Trucks there Doug! :D

I am really sorry that you're having so many problems with you truck. :D I don't have any suggestions, as it's out of my realm of experience, but there are certainly folks here that should be able to lend a hand.

I would suggest posting your questions in the general full size forum just in case not every one takes a look in this forum.
