Steering Pump Squeak

I know the steering pump squeak has been around since the intro of the NBS trucks and I was wondering if GM had fixed it for the 08s or 09s. If so then what is the fix for it. It is beginning to annoy me more because it is starting to get colder here in Dallas.

What do you mean by squeak?

 

Is it a constant squeal or only on cold start ups?

 

 

My 08 had a constant squeal since I bought it. I just had the ps pump replaced last week and life is good.

 

 

If it is jut on cold start-ups (10 degrees or lower) then you can replace your ps fluid with synthetic cold weather fluid to stop the squeal.

I think I am on my third (or fourth) pump. All were replaced under warranty but I have been out of warranty for a while now. The one I currently have makes a loud hum / growl every once in a while - especially when turning at low speeds like in a parking lot or manuvering a boat trailer backwards. I just deal with it by reminding myself that the truck is almost 7 years old.
