It may be pyschological, but I think my AFM stays on longer and comes on sooner in T/H Mode. I've just tested this coming home from work in town, never pulling a heavy load.

I don't think it is pyscholocical, I also noticed the AFM comes on sooner in the T/H Mode. Not sure if it stays on longer or not. I have not tested this with a heavy load either, just messing around experimenting.

From what I've read, AFM uses engine vacuum or some other indication of engine load to decide if it should be in V4 or V8. For a constant MPH, being in a lower gear will mean higher engine speeds at lower load, which is what seems to happen in T/H mode when running empty at some vehicle speeds. V4 is good for fuel econ. Higher engine speed is bad for fuel economy. V4 at higher eng speed might be neutral, better or worse depending on lots of things. I've done some playing around with this using the inst. fuel econ reading and it really depends on your speed as to what's better. For 'constant' speed and throttle, I think there's a couple speeds where T/H in V4 is better, but over a tank of fuel, running empty but NOT in T/H is better for economy

so in T/H mode if you left it in this would you see better gas mileage? or would the difference in tanny shift points or whatever it does equal it out to be the same without it in T/H?

You would probably see AFM in V4-mode more often, but not necessarilly better gas mileage because of the difference in trans shift points. At some steady speeds, I'd bet that you'd be better off in T/H, but for normal driving overall, and for faster speeds, I think mileage would be worse in T/H (based on the limited playing I've done in an '07 Suburban with AFM and T/H)
