Fluid Question...again.

So as to limit the amount of flamming I'm sure to receive, I've read through the posts and used the search function. I have a 02 Sierra 4wd Z71 and I will be changing the diff fluids, both front and rear and the t-case. I've read many different opinions on which fluid to use, and will more then likely stick to dino in the front, and synth in the rear. I'm leaning more toward the Royal Purple but will take any suggestions. As for the actual process, all three fluids seem rather easy to change, but I'm just confirming that the guides listed in the tech wiki, will apply to my truck? Also, by using the hex key method for filling, can someone give me an idea of how much rear fluid to fill and will this same method apply to the front diff? Lastly, how much should i fill the front t-case? (capacity numbers are welcome, but seeing how much this topic was covered, i wont belabor the issue) and now lastly...really...my truck has 63K on the odometer...so its time.

Flamming? Here? NEVER!

If your going through the trouble of changing all the fluids, I would put synthetic in both the front and rear, and use the GM stuff in the transfer case. With all three, just fill them to withing 1/4-1/8 inch of the fill plug and seal them up. After a few hundred miles, pull the fill plugs and check the levels. The front axle I believe is 2 quarts, the transfer case is another 2, and the rear is 2+1/2 to 3 quarts IIRC. I use Royal Purple in both my trucks axles and love it! Smooth operation and very quiet. But like I said previously, IMHO use the GM stuff in the transfer case. Good luck, and keep us posted.

Rear diff 8.6 gear holds 5.5 Pts

Rear diff 9.7 gear hold 5.9 Pts

They use a disclaimer that says all capacities are approx and you should still check the level.

You have likely already read this, but be sure you pull your fill plugs before removing the covers.

I used Amsoil's Severe Duty 75W 90 but I am sure RP offers a very good similar product.

I think the mood as of lately is for people to change their fluids. I've been planning to change mine in a week or so. I have also been wondering what the capacities the front / readend are.

I remember reading that the fluid I get should meet API GL-5 which this fluid does.

This stuff work or should I take it back?
