pm26 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Today I stopped at this Chevy dealership in Fort Pierce, Florida and they had about 20 brand new 2007 2500 HD 2WD crew cab pickups parked in front of the dealership. All discounted over $12k from the sticker. It is amazing to see so many new 07's still on dealer's lots. How are these dealers expected to order new 09's if they cannot even get rid of their new 07's?
SLESierra Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 my dealer has been selling those 2500s for a couple months now. Seems GM overestimated the market for the NBS 2500. I had one I bought back in February and got 17K off the sticker on the window then - so I imagine what you are seeing is yet another round of overbuild.
pm26 Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 Yours was probably a diesel truck, which are discounted more. The ones I saw were gas models. There is an awful lot of 2008 Duramaxes left in this state and they do not appear to be moving. Those are being discounted over $ 15k in many cases.

Duramax trucks could be hard to sell if diesel fuel prices are high. Around here, diesel is still running around $2.95 to $3.10 per gallon.

Around here, diesel is still running around $2.95 to $3.10 per gallon. Same here. I only saw a few stations where diesel is at $ 2.99. Which is 33% more than regular gas. Buying a gas 2500HD makes a lot more sense, especially because it is about $ 7k cheaper.

davzog Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Wow...I thought I did well at $2.77 yesterday..... I thought about a DMax until I found out that there mpg was not much better than the 6.0 gas engine....I consistently get 14+ back and forth to work, and DMax owners at work tell me they get 15-17 mpg....some get worse....ugh!!
pm26 Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 The advantage of the diesel engine shows when pulling heavy loads over long distances. Whereas the 6.0 gas engine MPG may drop to about 7, the diesel will still get about 12 MPG. Running both trucks empty will yield similar mileage.
07BlueSierra Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Too bad even though these trucks are heavily discounted they will be all but worthless the moment they are driven off the lot.

My brothers ’05 D-Max Crew gave a constant 17-18mpg back and forth to work.
Zembonez Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 ODD! Nobody here has any 07 models of anything on the lot... at least not the dealerships I frequent (and I see a lot of dealers in my line of work). In fact, Chevy and GMC stores here are running very thin on 08s. Pretty much all that is left is a few high end hard loaded units... many of which were dealer demos. They are fully stocked for stuff to sell though. I'm not saying they are rolling in dough. 2 Local Toyota stores are renting nearby vacant fields to park all of their excess Tundras on... (I love that) The San Marcos dealership has a ton of Tundras and FJ cruisers piled up out in the back of the dealership.

Same here in SW Ohio... local Toyota mega-mart has FJs, Tundras and Sequoias stacked like cord-wood in the back of their building..... Local GMC guy has 09 trucks, a few 08s. Says they are moving "OK", whatever that means.

The local Dodge/Jeep dealer near me looks like they've taken over part of the mall parking lot across the street from them. Driving into work one morning I thought the mall had a "Early Bird Sale" going until I realized that everyone was driving Dodge trucks and Jeeps.
Zembonez Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Well, no doubt the dealers are hurting. All dealers are hurting. As long as the economy (and stocks) flip flop on a daily basis, it will continue to be this way. I hope it doesn't last long.
ricko2 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 They pulled probably 100 or more from the dealer here at the end of October. Place is vacant now. What happens to all those cars and trucks? I think it would make more sense to sell them at this dealer, and not send in any new inventory. But what do I know?
