Vibration In My New 2008 Silverado

I've noticed a slight vibration in the floor board of my new truck. Sometimes when I take off I will feel it and then it goes away. Then when I get up to around 40 I feel it and then it goes away. If I keep it at 40 it is constant. It's not real bad, but I still feel it in the floor board. I'm wondering if it is the exhaust system vibrating ??? My truck is stock and not lowered. Anyone else feel this in their newer Silverado. Thought I would ask before taking it in ... thanks

It's very likely just a characteristic of the vehicle. Most ladder frame BOF vehicles suffer from harmonic vibrations at some speed and/ or engine RPM level. It's a characteristic of the build type. It's pretty normal in trucks.

 

You can take it to the dealer but I doubt they will find anything actually wrong.

My truck had/has that same problem. I took it to the dealer and they found some a/c lines that were too close to the body and they moved them. That took care of the vibration at take off. I have a vibration just as you said between 40-45 mph and if I take my foot off the gas it goes away. It doesn't do it all the time so when I took it back to the dealer guess what? " Could not duplicate problem" go figure. I hope that it is just a characteristic of the vehicle. If you find out what it is let us know.

The dealer will say to put three hundred pounds in the back of the truck bed and the vibration will go away. My dealer told me they designed the truck to carry a payload and that is why it doesn't vibrate with the 300 + pounds in the back of the bed. LOL My truck is lowered, so I just said screw it and didn't bother arguing with the guy. Some sort of vibration is typical with these trucks. Good luck.

"Could not duplicate problem" Doesn't surprise me :lol: I think the advise motoxxx got is probably correct. The rake on these trucks show they're made to haul a BIG load. I bet the driveshaft/pinion are a bit out-of-line with an empty bed. Once you put in around 300 pounds the two are in alignment then. The vibration I'm feeling seems to be like the vibration you would feel if you lowered your truck and did not get the pinion inline. Also, having a shorty probably makes mine worse :pimp:

I get more vibration in my RCSB trucks than I ever had in my Excab trucks. I'm guessing the lighter weight is a factor. Gotta figure these are vehicles that are rather stiffly sprung nd designed to haul weight and we are using them like family sedans. Sometimes keeping that in perspective will explain a lot.

I have an 08 sierra 2500 and I have a vibration/buzzing sound coming from the floor to under the dash on the pass. side. decided to look myself because i did not want the typical "could not duplicate" answer from the dealer. I tried some TSBs but they did not work, so I spent about 4hrs. and i finally found out. it is coming from inside the heat box under the dash where the aluminum a/c cond. goes into the firewall. if you re-adjust the cond. unit under the hood about an inch or so the sound will lesson a little depends upon which way you slightly move it. (up/down) you will only have about an inch movement. there is something inside the black heater box under the dash that is I think slightly touching the inside of the box that causes the vibration sound. How I figured that out is when i pulled the spare hide away glove box out and opened the lower glove box and snaked my arm through and pressed real hard on top of that heater box as the noise was happening, it stopped everytime i applied pressure. I am going to try and get the schematics on that box to see whats inside and how to open it. As for the dealer... when i took it down to have it repaired and explained my theory, they put some foam behind the heat box and adjusted the heat shields below the floor boards.....the foam did nothing and the re- adjustment of the heat shields made for another vibration noise problem, which I had to adjust back to fix that noise.(I thought they test drove your vehicle after repairs??!!) The dealer said that they did not want to take the dash apart (laziness) but I insisted they access the heat box and they want me to reschedule an appt. Hope this helps. As for the vibrations noises that are common with trucks...no offense guys ...that is a BS answer. if the trucks are built properly and time and effort put into the design you should not have vibration noises. maybe some minor squeeks from plastic to plastic rubbing together especially during cold weather.(inside of cab) I had a 1990 2500 with 127k on it with no vibration and/or rattles. Very tight truck. See ya.

Correct, keep in mind you still own a truck. They are made for work, ie towing/hauling. With a load in the truck you still want ride quality.

The first time around that is similar to what you said. A/C lines that are to close to something. They moved the lines and that made a world of difference but, sometimes in the 40-45mph range I still get that same vibration.

That is cool you figured out your vibration problem, however, we are talking about something completely different here...its called harmonic vibration or frame beaming. Maybe because you have a 2500 you don't notice it as much.

What's this "we" shit, kemosabe? I've probably hauled/towed about 15K pounds of stuff to and from my house in 6 months :uhoh:

      I do most of my yard work before 10. My summer walks are usually at Kroger’s. Inside and yes I’ll do light shopping. Usually by noon you don’t want to be outside from June to September. The mail box is a good walk. I’ll walk there about 3 times before the mail comes. My house has two floors if I feel I need to move I’ll do the stairs. I’ll walk down the lane to our rent house with clippers trimming branches along the driveway. There’s always something to do.

      There is a sign at my chiropractors office that says, "Don't quit, take a break." Sound advice.    On a 65 degree day (F) I can still work pretty darn hard (I'm 72). On a 85 degree day with a good deal of humidity it takes me three days to do what in took at 65 degree in three hours. If I work to muscle exhaustion (back) it will take me days more to recover. Taking breaks to prevent that is most useful. A lift belt has been very useful in preventing both.    Minister was giving a talk the other night where he was speaking of age and he used a clock to illustrate the human lifespan and it's ability to task. 1 to 45 was the second hand, scurry about. 46 to 70 the minute hand. Slower but...71 and up the hour hand...Hummm....until that talk I felt more like the minute hand. 😭   Then he says, the most useful hand on the clock is the hour hand. Without it you can't tell time. (Hour of the watch). I felt a bit better knowing we over 70 are useful. 🥹

      I still do oil changes on our 2 vehicles and my motorcycle. I have a robot mower for the yard but can't use it in my backyard because my wonderful dog keeps digging the guide wire up so I have to push mow it. Not much of a walker especially during the summer, just to hot. I will ride my e-bike almost daily which helps to keep my knees and hips loose and helps with my balance. That's my story an I'll stick with it. We have been in the mid to high 90's with a feel like temp of 105 to 109 for the last month with no rain. We finally got some rain which cooled it off but were still stuck with the humdity. I do pace myself and that's why it takes me 2 days to do something that used to take a couple of hours.   Peace

      @newdude great info, thank you!   So opening the thermal bypass valve early (or all the time) would cause temperature to rise more slowly, but above 194F there would be no difference from normal operation?   It seems like the only practical ways to bring down the peak temperature would be to improve the oil-air heat exchanger in some way or increase fluid capacity?

      I have a trailer lights checker I plugged into the 7 way connector in the bed of my truck that has the 5th wheel/gooseneck hitch. It gave the camera side view with the turn signal on just like having a trailer connected but it disabled the rear bumper sensors. I would rather have the rear sensors working.
