Thermostat Setting

We keep our heat set at 65 between 3pm and 10pm then it gets set down to 61 for the night. So we use a programmable thermostat. The heat kicks back on at 5am up to 65 to take the chill off but goes back down to 61 at 7am when everyone has left the house. With the price of heating fuel, we use LP it is going to be an expensive winter if it stays this cold in eastern NC.

 

I had it all set up with different temps to choose from, where the heck did all that info go and poll go?????? I had it to where you could choose from 58 to 60, 61 to 63, 64 to 66, 67 to 69, 70 to 72. But for some reason it didn't post it.

Yes and no I voted for both.... In my work I've installed them on every unit in our facility, over 60 units...In my home, yep you guessed it I'm still on antique.

We don't generally use the heat until mid December or sometimes early January here. At night I leave it on 55 and it bumps up to 63 or so in the morning when we get up. Never gets set over 65. Just don't like it that warm in the winter. Ours is all electric.

Mine is forced air NG. I use a programmable. I can't tell you what it is set for. I set it 4 or 5 years ago for heat, cool settings and time periods. I haven't touched it since. I never even think about the thermostat. Temp is always just the way I want it to be. I'd guess that heat is 69 or 70. Cool might be 81 or 82. Those temps are during occupied/awake times. Sleep/away, heat - maybe 60. Cool, away is probably 85. Sleep is same 81, 82. I've got great ceiling fans that cool things well.

Now that winter has crept in here I've reluctantly turned on the furnace "full time". I have mine set for 68 during the day and 63 for sleeping at night.

All year long we keep ours at 72 during the hours we are home and awake, 70 while we are home and asleep and a few degrees either way when we are gone and the dogs are by themselves depending on what the season is.

Lots of ceiling fans help circulate the air too..

I keep ours at 63 from about 7am-11pm (Wife and kids are home all day). At night, it drops to 60. Last year I tried bumping it up to 65 during the day, but we used about $150 more worth of propane with those extra few degrees that month, so it stays at 63 now.

My programmer is in my head, so if I remember to do it, 70 during the day, and I turn it down to around 62 at night. Sure makes it hard to get out of bed in the morning.

68 in the winter, 80 in the summer, natural gas forced hot air/ AC obviously as well. I tried the whole programmable thermostat routine and I came to the conclusion it is a scam. If you have it set at 60 at night it works hard to get the temperature in the house back up to 68. After the thermostat is statisfied at 68, it will come on quicker the second, third, fourth, etc time because not only are you heating the air but everything in your house as well.

 

I sat home one day and timed the differences in when the thermostat kicks on after being at 60 at night and the next night at 68, it was noticeable. Temperature was the same outside as well. I also ran the thermostat in January (for 28 days)all month at 68 during the day and 60 at night and then in February (jan 29+ for 28 days) at 68 all motnh and the amount of gas I used was pretty much the same. So f it, its 68 at night

 

This is my observation at my house, which is insulated pretty good.

Summer - 72* while home, 78* while asleep or gone.

 

Running diesel it has saved over $100 every year that we have owned it. So much more efficient and I only payed 35 bucks for a 7 day programmer.

63 during the day, 67 in the evening, 60 at night. Brrr... But I don't pay the gas bill, so I can't really complain. I do bring in the firewood though.
