I Need Brake Pad Suggestions

I know nothing about brake pads and what make or model really excels with my truck. Your recommendations are highly appreciated. My truck has 15,000 miles and in the cold mornings of late, my brake pads really squeal at first. They've never done that before and I have no idea how much wear they have, but I'll find out next time I have the tires rotated.

Warranty cover brake pads?

Anyway, let's pretend I wanted to just buy some aftermarket pads. Please offer suggestions with perhaps some personal experience.

The Carquest Gold pads are now Akebono Proact ceramic (labeled Akebono PraAct on the box.) I just bought a full set last week and they are less expensive than the Delco, just as quiet, no dust, and they have a lifetime warranty. Carquest will replace them free of charge when they wear out as long as the wear is even. I would talk to your dealer about addressing the sqeak first and look into the Carquest pads when it's time to replace.

Autoanything carries Hawk and EDC (or is it EBC?), what about them?

Warranties will generally not cover brake pads as they are considered wear items. If you can prove they have a defect or installation problem, they may replace them for free, but generally the answer will be no.

Lots of different online shops and parts stores sell aftermarket brake pads. Be forewarned, you get what you pay for. An aftermarket pad may be cheaper, but they generally do not perform as well. If you just use your truck for normal driving, stick with the OEM ACDelco pads. If you use your truck for racing or heavy towing, look at a pad specifically designed for those uses. Most name brand companies make a decent product, so you really cant go wrong, as long as you buy a pad designed for your specific usage.

I like Wagner Thermo Quiet Ceramic. Available at O'Reilly Auto Parts. Front pads on my Chevy trucks usually last 80k or so.

I am a little biased on this subject since I have been employed by CQ for 20+ years. Our Gold PCD series ceramics are now supplied to us by Akebono while Raybestos still supplied the GMD metallics. We have had excellent results with the Akebono pads with our Customers praising the for their quiet and smooth operation and all but dust free performance. I would encourage you to take a look at a set and I believe you will agree, you can see and feel the quality while they are still in the box.

And an important question I can't resolve is Did my truck come with the Heavy Duty brake pads on my truck (.717 thickness and an inch longer), or the Standard brake pads (.710 thickness).

I have the Heavy Duty Trailering Package on my WT with the SL package, but I don't see anything on paperwork that shows upgraded brakes.

I doubt that the pads need replacing at 15K miles, have someone check them for you, even dust and dirt on the rotors can make noise without the pads being worn out.

My 03 Sierra has 160,000 miles and still has the factory brake pads on the front and the rear was not changed until 120,000.

I seriously doubt that your pads need changing.

My company truck is a Ford and it gets driven on a construction site all day and I still get 40K miles or so on the pads.

I used the new CQ ceramic pads on my recently sold 97 Sierra and loved them, especially the no dust factor!

My new 09 squeels first thing in the morn? Probably moisture, not sure but have you checked out this thread? It is something I am definitely going to look into if it soon doesn't stop?'

My truck only has 1100 km's on it so I attribute it braking in the new linings/rotors? The 1100 km's is mostly hwy driving so not a lot of braking going on in those klicks?
