08 Silverado Wiper Blades...

Recommended Posts

Alright, I'm stuck on this one. For the first time since I've owned a vehicle I've decided to go with winter blades. That of course is followed by this being the first time I haven't been able to figure out how to put the new blades on.

The stock wiper blades on the 08 have some weird mount that I've never seen before and nothing that comes with new blades (the basic two pieces of plastic that allows them to fit most vehicles) seem to work.

Is this a proprietary item or am I completely missing something?

Thanks.

I wasn't even aware of winter wiper blades being available for the new trucks, since they use the "beam-type" blades.

I didn't really think winter blades were needed, since theres nothing on the beam-type blades were snow/ice can collect like a regular blade.

I am only aware of TWO vendors that make aftermarket blades for this truck style (there MAY be more, I just haven't seen 'em in my area).

1) Bosch (haven't tried them). That'll be my next set. Heard they work well in the Winter. Don't know for sure. Haven't found the right set for the GMT900 in ANY national parts outlet around HERE... have to order on-line.

2) TriCo (sp?) Neoform --- which I have now. Work great.... chatter up a storm on the window, though. Have had two sets of those now, and both are like windshield vibrators.

I think I have also seen a "RainX" blade for the 900s, but, as I don't like rainX, haven't tried those either.

Well I'm actually still on my original ones,And I've had the truck since last March....Hard to believe for me,I usually have to change them every 6-7 months.

Same here, got my truck in Mar of 07 and my original wiper blades still work like brand new...and I live in Minnesnowta.

Yeah these "beam-type" blades seem like they last a lot longer,I know I don't drive my truck very often,But I didn't drive the last one very much either, and like I said,I was always changing them.

John...I haven't found any aftermarket winter style blades for the

GMT-900s. The stock ones suck and I am on my second set of

them that were replaced under warranty.

They sure suck in the winter while snowplowing.

And don't ya just love the mickey mouse way they are attached to the

wiper arm?

I thought they were suppose to be better in the winter, because theres nothing for the snow/ice to stick too like a normal blade.

RICH...................Na.......Those blades are piss poor.

If you check them out the rubber is held together by

several U clips with a piece of strip steel in the middle.

Sorta made like a sandwich if you will.

During heavy snow storms and extended operation the

snow and ice freezes up in between the steel and

rubber and deforms the blade then the clips scratch the

windsheild.

There are several posts on the GM truck forums and the

snowplowing sites about scratched windsheilds from these

blades.

Ya figure most harry homemowners or the clown wheel truck

crowd will never have this issue driving to the office daily.

We are gonna try a set of wiper arms off a GMT-800 and see if

they will work.

You work at a dealer in snow country. You haven't seen any of

these GMT-900 wiper issues?

I have had no issues.

I just completed a Harry Homeowner run a week ago in a wicked blizzard with zero visability to Seward, 265 miles.

I am pretty pleased with the performance.

The clown wheels performed quite well, also.

I have a set of Trico winter blades in front of me for my 2008 truck.

The number on the package is 372213. More info here

The only source I could find them was Amsoil for $14.05 each preferred customer price.

The blades are easy to change, just squeeze one end and they slide off.

btw - my oem blades are working ok, no problems in over 16 months?

Are they a "beam-type" winter blade Mike,Or a regular winter blade?
