Driving In The Snow

Hi all, couple of ?s.I saw Grumpy Aero Guy's post and it got me to thinkin'(I know, dangerous).I bought a set of G'year Wranglers earlier this year and got to wondering how they'd be in the snow. The size is LT305/70R/16.The footprint is about 10''.

They are load range D and M/S rated.I remember some of you saying a narrower tire works better in the snow.I'm also curious how cold does the actuator have to get before it dis-engages.I replaced it in June with what GM calls the upgraded version.

Most of you know I live where there's little snow, but it does snow in the mountains near here. When there's snow I want to take my girls to have some fun in the white stuff and get home safely.I just want to be prepared ahead of time...

M/S is over-used by most tire makers.....basically, it's an 'all-season' tire.

however, where you live, you would not need a 'true' winter tire.

My opinion looking at the picture of your tire, you'll be fine.

:) I, as you already know, live where there is a lot of snow. I haven't bought a set of snow tires in my life. I just buy the A/T's, and I seem to get around just fine in my 4x2.

I have been driving in snow for many years and can tell you that wide tires are the worse in snow. All they do is plow and make for uneasy feeling when driving. Just like hydro-planning on water only 100 times worse. Not to mention the loss in mileage.

The Goodyear Wrangler AT/S are good in snow, the most popular winter tires around here according to the GY dealer.

So true. When I bought my truck they had 285's and they were terrible. Monday I'm getting 235/85-16. I don't care if they're not cool. My job depends on me getting through the snow and there ain't no plows where I gotta go.

Thanks guys, here in So Cal most people don't know understand the idea of driving thru snow.I'm guessing they have to learn the hard way..ouch! When I go to the snow I'll be carefull to drive according to the tires' traction and the Burb's progress.Luckily I have the winch to fall back on if I get into a bad predicament...

So the idea is to more or less cut thru the snow rather than push it front of the tire? Am I getting this right? When I was growing up near Seattle everyone put snow chains on and went about their business,is this true back East?

I've always liked your truck, the body style is a classic much like my burb. You've kept it clean and well cared for...Good Job.The way your truck sets just looks cool.......hopefully mine will make it thru the winter well.I'll hit the snow when it happens without hesitation and hopefully we all will enjoy the day..........has anyone made a snowman yet?

duh, after reading your post again I realized you have a different truck.Still,I stand by my comments,I like your current truck...bitchin
