Needs

 

-Family of 4 (kids 5 and 7)

~30k miles/ year

-DVD

-occasionally need to carry 4 kids and a baby (at most)(sister has 3 kids)

-occasionally need to pull small trailer ~1500lb max

-probably add remote start for cold mornings

 

 

Replacing 2005 Buick Ranier CXL (every option you can think of)

why?

 

-very low view through windshield (cant see stoplights)

-consantly hitting head on DVD when I turn around

- no visibility through rear view mirror

-5.3 plenty of power, would like to see 18+ mpg currently 15-17 wife has heavy foot

I vote for a Tahoe. Loads of more interior space and same fuel economy. I doubt any of your choices will net you much mpg improvement and you'd have to hand over your balls to buy the Honda Van. Your man card would be blemished forever.

 

I won't even ride in our friend's mini vans to go out to dinner...

But in my case, I would go with the Acadia since my wife would not want to drive a full size Tahoe.

I voted for the Tahoe if in case your wife would be comfortable driving it... I dont think that the diesel Excursion would be practical for what you need...

OK it looks like the Tahoe or Acadia. I am leaning toward the 'hoe because

 

-cheaper

-more room

 

 

The Excursion idea came from my pop in law. They traded an Excursion on a Expedition and miss the room for roughly similar mileage.

I voted for the Tahoe, but then I'm biased. After that a Yukon Denali or Acadia.

 

The new Tahoe's are really easy to drive and park. The rear view camera helps tonnes with backing them up. I would suggest going for the second row bench seat rather than the captains chairs for the family as it will give you seating for 5 without having to put in the third row seats.

I said other... I saw you had Honda Odessey listed, which really isn't an SUV, but have you considered the CRV? My wife has one, before we bought it we drove everything in the small SUV bracket as gas mileage was a major consideration. The CRV had the most rear seat/leg room (and the seatback recline in the rear seat) in it's class, we were able to get AWD for those inclement weather conditions and still manage 25 mpg city and 28 mpg highway! Granted, it's no speed deamon in comparison to an SUV with a V6 or V8, but it is roomy, has a good ride, is comfortable on long trips and gets decent gas mileage for an SUV...

My Bro-in-laws fiance' has one. It works great for her.

We have to have room for a minimum of 2 kids, occasionally 5.
