Brushguards

Just wanted to see what you guys think of this brush/grill guard.  Anybody here have one on there pickup?  My cousin has one on his F350 PSD, and I really like it.  It uses what I believe is 1 3/4" thick wall tubing for the main part of the guard, they are alot stouter then alot of the guards I've seen alot of people putting on recently.  We hit a deer one night going between fields, no damage at all.

 

Question for Ryan, chevy4x4trucks, or other guys with the GoRhino grill gaurds.  How exactly do they mount?

How it mounts is there is a piece of angle that bolts to where your tow hooks are.  On the end of that are holes that line up w/ the main section of the brush guard.  On my go rhino bar there is a second bracket that has one bolt behind the bumper and a bracket goes between the bumper and grille and bolts onto the backside of the brushbar.  This is mainly for support so that the bar doesn't slam against the hood.  I'm not sure how strong the bar is, I haven't hit anyone or anything with it yet.  

 

The brushguard you're looking at is pretty nice, personally If I could go back I would've held off and gotten a winch mount brushbar set up right away.  If you've got deep pockets and want a really gnarly brushbar check out www.roadarmor.com they are the kind of set ups that you can run down trees with.

Its good to hear that your brushguard atleast has some way of bolting onto the bumper.  I've seen alot of these newer ones that just rest up against the bumper, can't offer much protection that way.  I've never been a big fan of those big ranchhand type bumpers.  I like the protection they offer, but not the look.  I'd prefer a stock looking bumper that is that strong.

 

btw, I thought the first thing you were supposed to do after getting a brushguard was to run into something to test it out.  Was I misinformed?  LOL

 

Anybody else have any comments on how the above setup looks on that HD?

I have hit something with mine.  Back memorial day weekend when i was trying to get my truck to fit in my garage after 3 coats of wax when it started raining (i did get it in sideways haha) i ran slowly into my dads steel/wood workbench (large).  Nothing happened.  The bench did move (and its bolted down).

 

I am really tempted at times to hit things with it (stupid people/cars) but i dont.  

 

Is it really strong?  I could probably push things slowly but if i hit something going at a good speed im sure there would be good amount of damage to my truck.

 

I like it though.  Its a cosmetic thing not a utility type mod

Well the most I've ever run down is stray shopping carts in parking lots, occasionally people hop onto the integrated step on the bar while I'm driving (no idea why) but a quick slam on the brakes gets rid of them.  Like Ryan said they are more of a cosmetic thing, but I believe that they do provide some added front end protection.  Look at it this way, in an accident it's an extra 4" between you and the other car.

Ryan or Rado, I put the Rhino 3000 on mine.  I didn't get the brush guards, just the center grille guard.  In regards to the brackets that go where the towhooks went, I was only able to get the long horizontal bolts to go through.  The vertical bolts would not stay on, as the towhooks were threaded and the brackets for the grille guard are not.  Did you install yours the same way without the vertical bolts?  Thanks,

If I recall the vertical bolt is to keep the tow hook flat and the way I mounted those was to have someone stand on the piece of angle to keep the tow hooks and bracket down.  It was the most annoying part to install but it did go in.

It would be awsome if RoadArmor made a REAL bumper for the Av instead of the plastic cladding up front.  It doesn't even have to be any bigger than the stock - just solid steel posing as cladding!

 

I should NOT have started reading this thread - this is going to get very expensive very fast.  Just in case, is there a 12-step program for truck addiction?

I'm sure road armor will be making bumpers for all the new chevy's soon enough, right now they seem to be doing all f*** trucks, why, I don't know, but they are.

 

As for your truck addiction, if you want to quit, you'll have to do it on your own.  Truck addiction is one of the leading causes of money loss, and divorce.
