trying to rent a uhaul online. need it in a few weeks and am nowhere near my truck ... what class hitch do i have 1 2 or 3?

1500 trucks came with a Class III hitch. My 99 had a Class III hitch but it was one that had a 6000 lb tow rating. Most Class III hitches will have a 5000lb rating.

If you don't have a slug and ball, you can find them at just about any parts store, Wal-Mart, sporting goods stores that have truck, ATV stuff. The "drop" on the slug can be important (its' measured in inches). You want the trailer to be level when it's loaded so look at 2" and 4" drops for the slug. Get a hitch pin too.

Most U-Haul trailers will accept a 2" ball and you can find 2" balls and slugs with a 6000lb rating. But 5000 lb rated will work too.

U-Haul will attempt to sell you lighting connector kits but all you need is one of the conversion pieces that inserts in your 7-pin connector and has a typical 4-pin connector for the trailer lights. You can find these at the same places for about $6 to $8. It's a good idea to keep the ball and connector in the truck if you ever have to tow a trailer.

Larger U-Haul trailers have surge brakes so you won't need a trailer brake controller.

okay thanks. i've towed plenty of times but it was always snowmobile trailers in such so i wasnt worried about weight. i have everything to tow, they just needed my hitch rating to make sure it could handle the trailer i wanted. thanks!

Sometimes these things just get missed. Class III is what you should have.
