Relearn

Just wanted to get feed back on this subject. I have a 2004 GMC Yukon denali that I changed the spark plugs an wires on it. I have read in the fourm when you change to the Irduim spark plugs that you should relearn your computer by pulling off the battery cable for a half hour (because of spark plug gap change). Do you agree or disagree that this does anything? And if so why? thank you for your input!!

No idea, but it certainly wouldn't hurt anything.

The PCM is in a constant learn mode and disconnecting the battery just makes it start over. Best to just drive it.

It doesn't make any sense. We don't do that at our shop on any vehicle when plugs are changed from one type to another. If the PCM detected a change wouldn't it "relearn" as the truck is driven??

Spark plug fires the incoming charge, explosion pushes piston down, PCM doesn't care as long as sequence takes place in right order.

dont mean to hijack the thread here ... but what kind of plugs are best? i have 01 1500 that could probably use some new ones in it. changed em at 80000 miles but just put in some champions or something. they should be about due at 126000 shoulndt they?

As far as I've ever been aware the only time you really "HAVE" to do a relearn is if you've re-flashed the ECM/TCM with a tune. And then it's just the crank relearn function (HPTuners makes that easy as pie).

Well, that and if "Brain" (Chevanater2500HD) ever drives your truck, you may want it to relearn as much as possible.
