I HAVE A 93 SILVERADO 1500 4X4 WITH A NEWER JASPER MOTOR IN IT(5.7).AT FIRST MY TACH STARTED ACTING FUNNY .THEN ONE DAY WHEN I WAS ABOUT TO PASS SOMEONE THE TRUCK SORT OF LUNGED AND DIED...NO SPARK..REPLACED COIL,CAP/ROTOR.AND INSTALLED A USED MODULE..THINGS WERE GOOD FOR A FEW DAYS AND THEN THE TACH STARTED ACTING UP AGAIN.SO I RODE IT OUT TILL ONE MORNING I WAS GETTING IN THE GAS AND FELT THAT LUNGE PAUSE HAPPEN SO I QUICKLY STARTED SHUTTING OFF THE RADIO HEATER AND LIGHTS AND IT SEEMED TO STRAIGHTEN OUT.SO AGAIN NEW CAP/ROTOR.THIS TIME A NEW MODULE..WENT HOME ABOUT 25 MILES ALL GOOD..WENT TO RUN INTO TOWN AND THERE GOES THE TACH AGAIN WITH THE LUNGE,PAUSE BUT THIS TIME I SHUT THE HEATER OFF FIRST AND THE TACH STRAIGHTENED OUT.PUT THE HEAT BACK ON AND TACH WENT SCREWEY.ALSO WHILE THE TACH WAS ACTING FUNNY IF I BEEPED THE HORN THE TACH WOULD JUMP TO ABOUT 6.THE TRUCK DOES HAVE A REMOTE START INSTALLED AND WORKS FINE..HOWEVER THE HOT POST IS TAPCONNED TO ONE OF THE TACH WIRES COMMING OFF THE COIL.BUT I JUST DONT GET WHAT THE HEATER AND THE IGNITION HAVE TO DO WITH EACH OTHER..OH ONE OTHER THING I DID REPLACE THE STEERING COLOUM NOT TO LONG AGO.NOT SURE IF SOMETHING THERE MAY HAVE PLAYED A ROLL...HELP!!

I know, but I was giving your thread a bump.

Probably not really blowing ignition modules... the old ones will probably still work okay, so keep an extra on hand in case one really does blow.

Replacing those parts, and the ignition module in particular, is probably just allowing for a reset of the computer.

The computer seems as though it's losing its 12 volts, or a grounding strap is not making good connection somewhere. When this intermittent happens, it shuts everything down and probably keeps the truck from starting (because of the hodge-podge of corrupt data points the computer was looking at when it shut you down).

But again, I think you should look for some wiring issue somewhere, for a ground wire in particular. Ground problems are common, and can cause an assortment of symptoms like you have described.

Check the ground strap(s) on the engine block to frame, and on the dash board supporting structure... fender wells (where electronics are often mounted, getting their ground through the fender wells)... firewall...

Then of course check for a main 12volt cable connection being corroded and/or loose. Follow heavy gauge wires from the + battery terminal to their various destinations, looking for junctions where a loose connection has developed.

Good luck.

thats what i pretty much did yesterday dan, i remounted the one going from the coil to the body ..there were 2 just below the heater lines on the fire wall one to the frame ..the other was broke so i replaced it to the block.so far so good seems to be working well ..cant believe a groung strap would do that but...and i did fry 2 modules had em tested...thank you....greg
