Integrated Trailer Brake Control As An Add-on To A 2008?

I just bought a 08 GMT900 Vmax with the NHT package (trailering). It has everything except the factory integrated brake controller.

Can this brake controller be bought as a dealer kit? Are there wiring provisions for the controller already in my truck?

Do a search. There are a lot of post on this and they will give you the reasoning.

But the short answer is NO.

Way too many parts have to changed out.

like already stated the answer is "no" but for around $100.00 you can get a very good plug and play controler. They are very easy to put in, just plug into a block under your dash.

The GMT-900's don't just plug in under the dash like the 800's. There is a harness taped up under there already that you have to connect to an aftermarket controller. You also have to hook up 2 wires and a fuse under the hood. Still not too difficult.

That kinda begs the question as to why you can't just buy the factory unit and install it.

If it has to be an aftermarket unit, I had great luck with the Jordan Ultima proportional brake unit. It has a cable that runs from the box to the brake pedal and as the pedal is depressed further, it applies more braking. Plus it has the normal gain adjustment. I have one of these on my 99 2500.

There's been several threads on this topic. In short, far too many parts would have to be changed.....making it very expensive.

Cheaper to go with a Podigy controller than to retrofit the factory unit.

What parts would have to be changed in order to install the factory brake, I do not like the look of an aftermarket brake since its in my wifes Tahoe only used sparingly.

I have the factory brake in my 2500hd.

Finally found an answer, it can be done supposedly but with a lot of trouble and $$.

Here's the list: Part Number MSRP

Trim Panel 15844172 $ 40.25

Switch 15926102 29.37

Dash Wiring Harness 15945337 63.37

Master Cylinder 15837546 195.78

EBCM 25802684 170.54

TBCM 25788981 105.00

Trailer Brake Relay 25837945 55.50

Chassis Wiring Harness 25826569 387.43

Total $1,047.25

Yeah no one buys at msrp just giving you guys an idea

Update EBCM

Reprogram Cluster w/ vin of truck w/ JL1

It's still acting a little quirky because you have to unplug the trailer when you re-start the pickup to get it to recognize the trailer but other than that it works like a charm. Let me know if you have any questions.

i think i need some help formatting this

Makes you wonder why they bother to put a hitch on a truck without a brake controller.
