Advice Needed

I have a 20 year old TV. No problem with the digital switch, I bought a converter box with my government coupon.

Problem: now my TV is acting up, looks like I need a new one.

I have already decided on a 46" Sony Bravia. They have a couple of models.

My question: Is 120hz worth it ??? Will I notice the difference ???

Well, first off let me praise Sony before they bash me!

Secondly, I just bought my first 120hz set, and it is unfortunately an LG.

In the larger size (42" and up) I think it is a nice feature. I don't think it is worth the $500 or so that SOME are asking for it, however.

I have a few large sets, and 60hz is just fine if you get a good brand, like Sony.

I like this LG, but the depth of the picture is not as nice as a Sony. I got a smokin' deal, so I snagged it. I am in the middle of a long-winded relocation, and missed my big screen, so I spent some money.

Bottom line...don't feel bad if you don't go with the 120hz. If you do a lot of gaming, and watch a lot of HD fast action movies, you will notice a difference, if not a 60hz Bravia will serve you well

If you switch from a 20 year old TV to a Sony Bravia, you will be in shock and awe, no matter what.

I bought a 46" Sony Bravia (KDL 46V3000) last year and it's great. I think it's 100hz.

I would just go with a nice deal and not worry too much about features you will probably not even notice.

You will be comparing it with what you have now and will be happy for sure.

If you are upgrading from a 20yo tv I'd say just get the 60hz tv and use the cash you saved to buy a Blu-Ray player  . The 120hz feature is supposed to fix some of the motion blur that LCD's were prone to getting in fast action scenes. Realisticly, I doubt you or I could tell the difference between a 60hz set and a 120hz set.

I would go with a Samsung 120mhz then a Sony Bravia 120mhz. Blu-Ray with 120mhz looks amazing. I'd be happy with either one. I'll probably go with Sony myself because I have a PS3 and a Sony Bravia Surround Sound. Bravia have a sync function that makes everything simple.

Have you considered getting a plasma?

a man after my own heart.

No worry about motion blur and no fuss about 120Hz

Plus the blacks are on another level

avsforums.com has all kinds of information

I like double spacing.

Plasma rocks. I have a giant Panasonic, brand new and a BlueRay system. Couldn't tell you the model but it has a great picture. Anymore lifelike would be gross.

About two months ago I bought a Panasonic 50" plasma and a Blu-Ray player. Model TH50PZ85U. It's bad-arse! Plasmas have come a long way and don't

have the problems with image retention like they used to.

got a phillips with 1080p full hd and "motion flow" has a better refresh rate I believe. I love it. Games look amazing. Its a 42" and I bought an upconverting DVD player. takes my regular movies and plays them in 1080p. Its awsome.

I have 2 Samsung's, and they are both great LCD TV's. The only thing that steered me from a plasma was the light reflection, and this depends on where you are putting the TV. If you have windows behind where you are sitting, or on a wall adjacent to the TV, you will get a reflection from the light onto the TV. You do not get the same thing with a LCD.

I would actually prefer a plasma. But I live at a high altitude and they do not work well up here. We can only do LCD or projection up here.
