Arrrggg...HYPERTECH!!!!

So I e-mailed Hypertech the other day as I am getting antsy to fix my odometer to reflect my revised tire size.  The HPPIII for the 8.1/Allison combo doesn't allow for this.

I realize that this is due in behalf on Allison's part, but jesus, tire size changes are one of the most commonly (not to mention one of the first) modifications done to one's rig.  You'd think this would be the one thing they WOULD'VE made sure to get.

Here is the reply I got from them;

Thanks for the email and your interest in Hypertech. The Allison

is controlled by a totally different computer and we have nothing that will

work with it at this time. We may in the future but not sure what or when.

Check our web site for updates. Thanks

Arrgggg, how frustrating!  I don't want to go buy one now, then in 5 months they come out with a version that allows tire size change.   :plainsmile:

I purchased the 2002 Hypertech programmer for my 2500HD/8.1 last week. I wonder whether Hypertech would concede a new unit should they make upgrades. If so, what are the terms, time period, cost, etc.. Did they give you any indication of how they might handle an upgrade?

Nope.  That was his whole reply.  I thought about that afterwards.  What if I do buy it now and you revise it later on.  Do I need to dump another $300+?

I think that'd piss off a lot of people

At least Hypertech has a unit out.  Superchips say their unit for the 8.1 won't be ready till the end of June and their original estimate was the end of February.

Has anyone talked to the folks at Allison?  Maybe they sell something.

After posting I decided to go take a look at their web site.  They have a couple of diagnostic PC based tools that they will sell to any Allison trnamission owner.  They also have the ability to reprogram the transmissions but here's the kicker and this comes from their web page.

Note:

When shipped, each application is a diagnostic only tool. Users who wish to activate the embedded reprogramming function will be required to provide Kent-Moore with a copy of the approved training certificate, the serial number found on the CD, as well as the embedded key number found with the Allison diagnostic tool. Kent-Moore will then provide a one-time password, which will activate the reprogramming function

If you'd like to see for yourself, go to this web page.

Anybody have any additional info?

I just talked to my buddies dad who is a GM mechanic. He was saying he just got back from the Dmax seminar from GM. According to him, with the Allisson, and changing tire size, you must go to the dealer and have it reprogrammed. I can't for sure remember what he said would happen if you don't, but it wasn't good.
