New K&n Filter

Recommended Posts

I just installed the K&N air intake filter kit for my 08 4.8L Silverado. Do I really need the cover to go over the filter part? It almost seems like with the cover on, the air is kinda restricted. Holla at me Fam.

If you are talking about the upper half of the air box... well YEAH. It's sortof what keeps the filter in place dude.

+1 Did you research this kit before you bought it??

Besides keeping the filter in place, the cover keeps the engine compartment air (hot) from going directly into the box. The box inlet is against the side of the inner fender and there is a path for air to make it's way to the box from the outside (sorta).

If you don't put that top cover on, heated engine compartment air will enter the intake and reduce your power. That cover is designed to block that heated air and direct the cool air from the original duct in the fender into your intake.

Yes, you can leave it off if you think it looks cool. It'll be a $300 noise maker that probably reduced your power.
