Moving Rear Axle Back

Whats a good way to do this, besides a zero rate? My axle moved forward after the leafs were installed. Id like to move it back an inch or 2.

I don't know how a zero rate works, and I've never done any suspension work like that, but wouldn't you have to modify the driveshaft to make it longer to move back the axle? When you drop the axle, the driveline pivots at the transmission knuckle doesn't it? So when you drop it and keep the same driveline length you'd be bringing the axle towards the front of the vehicle, like swinging along an arc of a circle? Maybe I'm thinking to rigidly and I've never done any big suspension lifts like yours (looks AWESOME by the way), but that's how my brain pictures it.

How did you determine the axle moved foward? If it did with the 'add a leaf' you used, it was designed poorly or installed incorrectly. I would either try the reinstallation of remove it all together. There should be 0 movement of the axle lengthwise .

He may have to have his driveshaft extended, or replaced once he figures out how to move the axle back. When you lift the rear, the drive shaft's slip yoke slides out of the tranny. I believe mine pulled out about 1/2" or so. His will probably be more, but you have a threshhold of about 2-3" I want to say. If it were locked in and you flexed your rear suspension, it would pull on the axle and that just wouldn't work. So that makes me think that his axle moving forward was caused by something else.

Jameson, how far did your DS pull out anyway? Did you have to notch the rear X-member?

You can see it. The center of the wheel isn't in the center of the wheel-well. He installed a brand new leaf spring pack so no blocks or add-a-leafs. I can't think of anything except maybe the incorrect leafs????

Are you sure you didnt mix up the right and left side leave springs, installed the left on the right side and the right on the left side? It sounds like thats what you did as some leave packs axle mount points are not in the center of the leave springs. I almost did this when I put new leave spring packs on my 87 I had years ago.

Wrong spring application? Springs installed backwards? Something is up (and incorrect) if they moved the axle location.

Is it possible that you installed them backwards? not left side on the right but have the front end of the spring in the rear shackle?

i installed em right, i verified with Deaver, so thats all good..damn

Did they have any suggestions?

of course not, so i guess ill just take out a leaf and adda zerorate to move it back.. where can i get new centerpins?

That I am unsure of...

I emailed Offroad Design, they said to either redrill the perch or you can get aftermarket perches with multiple holes to choose from..i may just redrill.
