Bfg Mud terrains vs Thornbirds

I don't have any experience with either tire, but I have been told by several people that the Thornbirds are not that good in the mud.  Told me they are mostly for looks.  Again this is second hand information.

I have been very pleased with the BFG Mud T/A's in heavy mud on several vehicles.

1991 Ford F150 6cyl - 33" tires (me driving for someone else)

1981 Jeep CJ7 BBC - 39.5" tires

1989 Toyota - 33" tires

1984 Toyota - 31" tires

19?? Ford Ranger - 31" tires (me driving for someone else)

I have never owned the Thornbirds.  The BFG's clear well with a little throtle.  We have a local mud pit/urban legend called the Bingham Light where all of these were used at least once.

All are interesting stories if ya wanna hear.

I have the BFG Muds and they are Great.  They perform wonderfully in the mud and have great on-road manners.  I definately recommend them.

I have only hear horrible things about thornbirds, including they suck major @ss in the mud and wear Extremely fast on the road, so you will be replacing them pretty fast.

Go for the BFG Muds.

I have also heard that Thornbirds are recommended for front solid axle vehicles OVER IFS because the aggressive side lugs apply of alot of added stress when they are getting traction.

I chose the BFG Mudders over the Thornbirds for their versatility and durability.  Would recommend them highly.  Actually, I highly recommend all BFG tires.

Ive been leaning towards Bfg's, expecially the new Km. I just liked the looks of thornbirds and always have wanted them. But Bfg's will be coming when I get the money.

Get the BFG's don't waste your money on Thornbirds sure they look cool but I haven't heard anything good about them. I have BFG all-terrains and I have been very pleased with them so I m sure that the muds will be just as good. The next time I buy some tires I will either get BFG muds, SSR's, or Pro Comp X-terrains because I want something a little more aggressive.

The Thornbirds look knarly, at least the shoulder lugs do, but the rest of the tread is close together and will pack mud and not clean so well.

Go with the BFG mud terrains, the Maxxis Buckshot Mudders (a 40,000 mile tire) or the Interco TrXus (apparently the quietest) http://www.intercotire.com/html/trxus_mt_sts.htm. All three of those clean well, even in Gumbo and clay.

I currently have Buckshots. In the 285/75-16 are an 8-ply rated tire.  The same size in the TrXus is a 10-ply tire and an 8-ply in the 265 size. If that matters to you.
