Gel Cells

So i have a gel cell in my truck from napa, i think i put it in a year or two ago. I had some trouble with it when we where in the neg temps, my question is do the gel cells hate the cold more that the regular lead acid batteries?

I'd say not... I have an optima yellow top in the Envoy Denali and it does great in the cold.

My optima red top handled -30 temps just fine also.

I am not sure. I do know they rate their CCA's at 0 degrees F instead of 32 degrees F like most other battery companys.

AGM and spiral core batts (Optima, etc) can handle the cold. True gels cells in my experience do even better. I had some true gels in my camper, and I left them in 2 winters in a row in Alaska, never had a problem. I trickle charged them every month or so. True gel batts are great, but they are really expensive. I bought them for their compact size and Ah rating.

Hey, Where can you pick up a true gel cell battery from?? I was going to shop around and pick up maybe a yellow or bluetop for my gmt900 but im not sure yet,still debating on what to get? any input? I have heard from my other forum i go on (an Offroad one) that the odyssey batterys are alot better and more reliable than the optimas? anyone had one before? Here is a link to their website.
