Aux Button On Stereo

on my stereo there an "aux" button but I have no idea what it's for. I know on newer trucks there's an input for an ipod or whatetever but what would the aux button be for on this stereo? Is there a way to "hook up" an ipod to this stereo without using the

FM transmitter method?

thanks

I use the aux button on my truck for my Sirius radio. I have and adapter that plugs into the wiring harness and uses standard RCA inputs. Works real nice.

I used a product made by PAC AUDIO, It is plug and play. The harness plugs in-line onto the existing harness. The best part is it worked with the factory buttons. The mode button on the radio changes it between radio/CD/aux. The aux button changes between aux1 and aux2. I just had to install a 1/8 stereo jack for the input. http://www.pac-audio.com/products/products...xiliary%20Input I used p/n AAI-GM24 for my 05 silverado.
