Another Aftermarket Stereo Q

Ok, I got my GMAHLAN today... Looking through the instructions, it looks like you need to run the front speakers from the HU and not from your amp for onstar useage? Anyone have it working off the amp? Did I read that part right in the manual?

Thanks.

Aftermarket headunit and amp?

If so connect all your speaker outputs on the headunit to your amp and from your amp to your speakers, at that point the stereo will be working less, onstar and chimes. In order to get these working you will need to connect the GMAHLAN to the speakers AFTER the amplifier, so that you are not running onstar and chime signals through the amplifier.

At least this is similar to what I did on my truck... I suspect some differences in our install though because I needed the GMOSLAN.

I think we have the same basic interface just yours is Metra, I got a PAC. So I need to run the speaker wires from my amp to the GMAHLAN then to the speakers?!?!? Wonderful...

To do it correctly, you run the wires from the amp to the speakers. Stop there. Then from the front speaker wires off the LAN harness, you install one or two chime speakers (Metra SP-2003) and feed them off the left front speaker wires for one chime speaker, and off the right front speaker wires for the second and optional chime speaker. That's the correct way to do it. If you double feed the door speakers from the amp and from the LAN harness, you may end up with some distortion.

x2 That's how we did it at our shop and how I did it my tahoe. You could run the harness inline with your amp to speaker wiring but I wouldn't suggest it.

That speaker also does the onstar, correct? not just the chime? I have a 3.5 I will mount for now I think then I will try to acquire another speaker.
