Electrical Issues On 07 Silverado, Please Help

I have an 07 Silverado and was replacing my OEM stereo with an aftermarket DVD/Nav combo. I bought the appropriate wiring harness so I wouldn't need to cut any factory wiring. I disconnected my battery and proceeded with the install. The install went with no glitches, I reconnected my battery and tested the stereo, all went well. I tried to start the truck at this point and nothing, I start looking around, firstly to see if the truck was in park as I had to shift to get the dash panel off. I noticed there is no indicator light to show which gear I'm in, looking futher I notice the following are not functioning:

1. Gear indicator

2. interior lighting

3. Power windows and power locks

4. Turn signals (including emergency flashers)

5. Truck won't start (or even turn over for that matter.)

6. Remote keyless entry

7. I get a message stating my stabilitrak is out, and my tracktion control system is off.

Just to make sure there wasn't some issue with the stereo, I reattached my OEM model with the same results. here's a list of what is working:

1. Onstar

2. Horn

3. headlights, parking lights

4. stereo

5. power outlets

6. climate control (as much as I could test, the AC won't come on w/o the truck on)

Since then I've replaced EVERY fuse in the truck that I can find. I've done them all under the hood an in the driver side panel. I'm wondering if there is a relay or fuse that I could possibly be missing that controls all or part of what I have out? I should note that I have no way to test the relays, if i knew exactly what they controlled it would be helpful, but i haven't been able to find this info. I'm not sure how I would find this information, i searched these and other forums with no avail. I'm hoping someone could help with some ideas I could try as I can't afford to pay Chevy to troubleshoot, and am not sure if this would be covered by my warranty.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What I would do is get a factory service manual set which would include wiring diagrams and descriptions of how the various electronic systems operate...

Then I would read about the wiring harnesses I messed with and look at the wiring diagrams to see if there were any wires I disconnected which might cause a problem and something would need to be reset (computer) or if there was something in the factory stereo an electronic gizmo needed to operate (no telling what they will do these days).

Then I would check one thing at a time using the wiring diagrams to see if each thing had power and I would use a multi-meter for this. Then I would troubleshoot from there.

Basically everything is so complex electrically and computer wise these days, you need to be able to read how everything works and how things interconnect with everything else.

It depends on the specific model. Sometimes when something is disconnected, it might mess up some security feature. Also there are main fuses before the fuse block and one of these might have blown.

I would suggest finding a scan too to see if any trouble codes are being generated.

It sort of seems like you got a bad wiring harness for the stereo that has messed up the BCM. You can try disconnecting the battery for a couple of minutes to see if the BCM will reset. But you'll probably have to find a scan tool to find out what is really going on. Also I would put in the original stereo till things get back working.

This issue popped up back in 2003 model year when they re-enginiered the electrical systems to do more things with less wiring thus having items share the same connections. From what I remember was a LOT of things utilize the GM Delco OEM stereo system to operate such as the chimes, onstar & a like. From what I have read here lately the semi quaze' security system looks for things that were there before and shuts down some things if all the previous items are missing in thinking they were stolen. I might not be 100% corrent in everything but I think thats the jist of it.

check your grounds, if you unplugged any factory grounds from bolts or attached a ground wire improperly it can affect all types of things. i left one off once and the truck acted a lot like that, as soon as i attached it everything was back to normal instantly.

What did you do with the factory radio after you installed the after market radio? If you just removed it and did not put in the relocate kit or the by-pass kit then that could be part of the problem. There is a lot of stuff that goes threw the radio IE obd system. Also if you used a multi meter to teat any of the radio wires the there is a risk of doing damage to data bus system. I found that out when i install my system, I could not find a keyed 12v so i called my installer and he said not to test anything cause of the data bus. I used the relocate kit and just ran the wires to back of the truck and pluged the factory in back there. I have herd of problems the by-pass module were the whole system starts messing up. It could be a bad by-pass module if that's what you used.

Good luck

Remember the good ol days when ya all ya did was splice a couple wires adjust the shafts so it would fit in the holes, tighten down 2 nuts and there ya was with a new stereo?

Now its a major ordeal

I would just install the stock radio back in and take it to the dealer and act you have no idea what happened. Just "dummy up" and say all of a sudden everything just started acting up. Thats what I had to do on my wife's altima, somehow I screwed up the airbag system by unplugging the airbag light (which is in the radio bezel) . It was still under warranty so they fixed it. I later found out on other internet forums that you can damage the airnag computer if you turn on the ign without the little red light on the dash plugged in. And thats exactly what I did to her car. If the deal can not "prove" you caused the damage, then they have to fix it under warranty. But then on the other hand if they actually can prove it, (which is pretty hard for them to do) your up shits creek. Check into the "Magnuson Moss Warranty Act", its a law that basically states that dealer can not void your warranty even if you did add aftermarket stuff unless they have actual proof that the install or the aftermarket accessory itself actually caused the damage.
