does anyone know the GVW for a 1989 GMC Sierra 1500 2wd regular cab w/ long bed is? doesn't have to have those exact features, but something close would be good. I need to tow one back through the mountains and just want to make sure i'm not overloading my tow vehicle.

Look on the door sticker. If not there, look in the owner's manual.

Load 12% tongue weight, use Drive or less going up & down the mountains, inflate tires.

Take along extra spares, trailer and truck. Don't lug the engine. Grease the trailer bearings?

Hopefully, trailer has brakes, if not, allow more room - think ahead fo the worst condition.

Always leave yourself an out.

Make sure all lights work - especially turn signals.

Good luck, check tire pressure. You'll be fine, just be easy and think ahead. I used to tow '68 Camaro and no-brake tandem trailer with a 1/2-ton '73 Dodge from the Beach to Bristol, TN and back with no problems.

You don't need the GVW (6100lbs)- that is the maximum it can weigh loaded. Since you are towing it you need the empty weight. I would guess about 4500lbs. Havent scaled a 1/2 ton in a long time.
